Calipers

Please help if you can, I have just removed the brake pads from the n/s/r caliper on s2, they were not easy to extract and when one came out it brought the top part of the piece that pushes into the piston, in fact it was stuck to the pad. I'm sure this is not right, should there be a smear of grease between these parts?

If you mean the top of the anti-squeal pad? they can be 'double sided' onto the pad. When you replace them put some copper grease on the back of the pad.
If the pad was difficult to pull out of the caliper have a look for warping/lift of the stainless shims at either side. This is caused by dirt getting behind the shim and the aliminium of the caliper 'rusting'. This distorts the shims and may be difficult to get the new pad in and it will not sit flat to the disc.

Thanks for info, it now seems that the anti-squeal shims are stuck to the back of the pads. The stainless shims seem tight to the caliper, I was kind of wanting them to have 'lifted' as this might have been the answer to a binding brake.
