front spoiler TLC

the front lip on my car is ready for some much needed TLC.

this area (this isn't my car):

that space has parts connecting the lower part to the upper part and some of that is broken off on mine (zlatko, previous owner, hit a speed bump or two i think... lol)..

anyway, i'm gonna need to re-glass it... and with that comes painting.. the paint code for my car is LY5V - that silver metallic blueish paint that i forget the exact name of at the moment..

my question to you is this... if i just sand it down, and glass it... is this a job that can be done just with the colour match spray cans you can get at napa or any of those other places? or does it need to be primed, and clearcoated? (i dont think it needs to be clear coated... it's not metal.. but i dont have much experience with stuff like this..)

The only problem with glassing it , is that the FG is'nt as flexible as the plastic so it will crack off best way is to weld the plastic with a plastic welder( which is basically a just a heatgun with a pin point on it.

and if there are some parts missing? the far right (drivers side) connection has about a dime-sized chunk missing.

There is new one on e-bay. Not mine, just noticed it while doing a seach for a 951 nose.

8009893694 Item numbers. $99!! That's a steal for a new OEM spoiler, looks like it's silver?

I've used rattle cans. Looks great unless you get on your hands and knees with a magnifying glass and look way closer than anybody with a brain.

The textured finish prevents seeing any faults in the paint.

Actually there are many 944 parts that start with 477 and 931, all decend from the 924 and 924 Turbo (931) days. That is the correct part number for a 944 spoiler. But it does seem strange since that spoiler never appeared on any 924 turbo cars, not even the 924 Carrera GT. The Carrera GT spoiler does start with 931, so maybe that is the connection since the 944 spoiler was based off the GT design/look.

that's a great price.. but compared to the one on ebay, it's not all that great.. he wants $150 + $75 or so shipping - and that's just to the US, not canada....

if i could get this guy on ebay to sell it to me, get someone from Ohio to pick it up and have me pay the $5 local pickup fee.. and get them to send it to me... it'll end up being much cheaper...

Have you tried Porschapart or whaletail? Both would have the part and you could pick up.

whaletail only sells new stuff, dont they?

if they resemble pelican's prices at all, I dont really wanna spend $850+ on the front.

Sounds good....

I will probably have the front off within a month. I am waiting for the snow to fall before I park her and start playing in the garage.

I just looked at it in the garage......It looks great. The car was repainted a few years back and it was patched up pretty good. The car has seen only 10-15K since.

Thats the color.

It is Artic Silver........ So you will probably need to re-spray your color.

ahhh mine is almost identical... i have the LY5V, or what paintscratch.com describes as "Sapphire Metallic".... i could get away with bolting it right up and then worrying about paint later.
