Astronomic Emissions

When I fail, I fail big time...

The CO% limit at 15mph is .44 Mine is 6.4!
The CO% limit at 25mph is .64 Mine is 5.75!

The HC is also a litte high. Limit is 110, and mine is 247.

Anyone have any ideas as to the problem with my 83 944?

History: The car failed a month ago with nearly same numbers as above. It also had a suspect head gasket. I changed the head gasket, and all the seals head up. It has a new oil, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coolant, and a new O2 sensor. It also is now wearing the exhaust system off my 924S which always passes with no prob. Obviously I am not a little off, something is very wrong here. Weak coil? AFM? Anyone?

My 83 is a California spec car, and has a three wire O2 sensor. I am wondering if I hooked it up incorrectly. The green wire has an inner and an outer. Do I wire both of those to the black wire on my universal three wire O2 sensor? Do I only wire the inner to the black and leave the outer wire unconnected?

2 wires are for the heater and the one wire is the signal wire. I think the green wire that you unwrapped was a shielded wire and the outter part is the shield not supposed to be a conductor. Not 100% sure but maybe someone else will know.

What is a DMV meter, and can I get one locally? What will is the diagnosis if it doesn't go back and forth as above?

Hey I have one of those. What/how do I hook it up? Go step by step as I am mechanically inclined, but not so electrically inclined.

verruckt, you do not need to hook up the outer wire of the 2 green wires. I just went through the same think a week ago. It sounds like you have already cut the green wire fron its connector (flesh colored plastic) which usually plugs into the pice that the black wire terminates into (it has a black rubber shield around it, see picture above in f.r. wilk's post

Short story is: If you do not have a connector at the end of the green wire from the computer or on the black wire that comes from the o2 sensor then use connectors (NOT SOLDER) to wire the black wire to the inner green wire. Make sure that you strip back the outer green wire about 1" away from the inner ensuring that it cannot come into contact with the inner green wire. then wrap electrical tape, or the shrinking tubing on the outside and you are done. It worked great for me.
