Jay leno
I know he wasn't driving a 944, but I was wondering how many of you saw the episode on the learning channel the other night with jay driving that carrera around the super speedway at talladega. I think he got it up 190mph or something, plus he looped it around through the tri-oval. it was pretty neat to watch.

The whole thing is in this month's Panorama. The fastest the car went on the track was 212 MPH IIRC.
I'm surprised how few 944 owners are PCA members ![]()

Well, a lot of 911 owners I know also have 944's as "secondary" cars, so I really haven't found that. I'm also in the same socio-economic ballpark as the majority of 911 owners - I just choose to drive a 944 because I actually have to drive when it's wet outside LOL!
That being said, I do agree that most 911 owners are snobbier than 944 owners. They're very silent with 928 owners though. After all, the 928 blows the 911 away, and was Porsche's replacment for the ageing Beetle (LOL) Sometimes you can't change things without changing them on the inside just my 2¢

Different regions have different personalities.
The Pacific Northwest region has plenty of helmet-heads that seriously abuse their cars on a regular basis. Well worth it to be a club member here. Doesn't take long for a newbie to gain respect when his shiny new 997 gets spanked by a 30-year old 914. |

Interesting comments about PCA. I'm a member and I drive my 944 or 928 to events, as I feel the desire. It's funny how people relate to you a little differently with each car. Here in TN, however, they're very friendly. A while back we had a combined event with the "Tennessee Tubs", a club based on the 356 and 911 series cars, and afterwards several of us went on an extended drive. We weren't at racing speeds by any means, but it was a chance to size up the general performance of various cars, and at the time I was in my little normally aspirated 944, and I could have eaten any of the 356 cars with a blink of an eye, even though they were screaming along at high RPM and looking very cool doing so, and I had absolutely no problem keeping up with any of the 911 cars when it came to the handling of tight turns, acceleration out of the turns, over the road performance, etc. The 944 is a joy to drive, and it still gets a lot of respect from those in the know.
Regards, P
