Porsche Crest 944 motor What year is it rebuild or replace seals( new to forum)

Well Finaly decided to join the forum, Because now I need advice of my fellow 944 owners Because i can't figure this one out myself.
Here's " the list "
I just bout a 84 944 motor ( looking at the intake manifold it has vacume hose under it like in 85.5 model and up ) well atleast the guy i bought it from said it was and 84 with 84k miles on it, how do i know of the year for sure?.. got it for 560 buks and has been sititng for 2 years. Oil looks clean looks to have updated water pump and apears not to have any oil leaks other then buy the Oil pour spout. What shoudl i do?
1 Put not seals in front n back of engine belts that kinda thing
2 Rebuild the motor completly?
3 Rebuild the motor in it now and jus swap out?

Since it out in the open replacing seals np i've dont it before but. Will it be ok since it's been sititng for botu 2 years
Thanks
J

The engine number gives the year. As you don't even know if it will run, I would do a leak down test first.
Before it goes in:
Timing and balance shaft belts, rollers, front seals, water pump, flywheel seal, cam box gasket (the one to the head, check the lifters while apart), oil pan gasket, oil cooler seals, oil filler tube o-rings, inspect and change the rod bearings. Change the Motronic cooolant sensor.
Obviously: change the cap, rotor arm, plugs oil and filter.

Or just put it in and hope for the best...

What's wrong with the one in the car?

By the way, non-running (broken belts) or broken trans 944s are worth about $500

I would get the engine looked at by a Porsche and 944 experienced technician, that doesn't mean a "we do German cars" type of shop.
It may be cheaper to fix the engine you have rather than spend more putting in an unknown unit.
Doing a basic diagnosis: compression, leakdown and fuel pressure test of the engine you have will give some answers.
