Question on Parting out a car... Large Items ?

Ok.... So if you have not been following the sequel. I have started tearing apart the 86' Turbo........ now I have a few big items that I am not sure what I am going to do with when its all said and done...... ???

What do people do with this stuff ???

86 Turbo stuff

- Tinted turbo hatch, tinted side glass.... ?? The size makes it a big of pain to ship?? It would look great on another car???

- Rear Trailing arms, torsion bar stuff etc ?? I guess I could keep in case I need one... more than likely NEVER.

- Shell from the car with no suspension or nothing, just the rear quarters??? I guess I could keep it in case I ever smash the rear end???

- Sunroof ? Do people even buy these things ???

- A complete burgundy interior. Dash with some cracks. Every switch, knob, etc, Burgundy seats etc..... ??? Is there even a market for burgundy... LOLOL

- Torque tube. Again the sheer size of this things makes it a pain to transport...??

- Empty doors ???

What do you guys that part cars do with things like this???

I know for a fact that the knobs and switches DO sell... because I bought a few off eBay over the past few years.

Do some eBay searches for the stuff you have, and that should give you a decent indication whether or not there is a market.

There is a market for burgundy. I posted a parting thread on my 86 which had that interior, and I probably got 75 emails for people asking for interior bits, problem is almost everything inside was broken, so most of these people should still be unsatisfied! Quick, help them! :)

As for the big items, try to keep them in canada, it will make shipping a lot nicer (read Greyhound). Other than that, I don't know?... I'm still trying to get rid of some bits from my 86, like the transmission, etc. Shipping has been cost-prohibitive at this point.

Shipping is definitely an issue. I will take the hit on that just to get this stuff out of here.

No biggie.. Not attached to any of the stuff. :D

BUT watch I will get rid of something that I will need... hehehe

CJ... I may end up just throwing it on ebay just to get .......well.....really anything...... I will check ebay for some prices.... and then just clear this stuff out in a couple of weeks...

I thought about turning the back half of a 944 into a trailer for towing tires & fuel on track days. It would also make a cool bed or some wall art.

I parted out a 944 once, and i found that the shell was nearly impossible to get rid of. I ended up cutting it up with a torch into small pieces, and threw them out one at a time into the scrap metal pile at the town dump. It took the better part of a day to cut it up, but i couldn't find any other way to get rid of it.

Yeah I also have this thing where I think car parts would make great furnature decoration. For example, my opinion is that the best use for those between-the-taillights rear "PORSCHE" aftermarket lights would be some kind of cool bar-style wall light.

I have also seen old Porsche wheels used as table stands. Very cool.

All those parts except the interior are a little hard to find buyers unless they are local. If you have another car that could use them in the future I'd keep them around. That is if you have the room. But if you keep everything your shop will start to look like mine and thats really no good.

You could specifically sell large parts of the car that have the VINs...

Who knows, someone might need one with a clean record... Not that I'd promote or condone such behaviour...

pokey 11-07-2005 06:11 PM

Or sell just the VINs...

ae1969 11-07-2005 06:42 PM

Except this VIN is no good......... not that I thought of that kinda stuff.

pokey 11-08-2005 10:31 AM

It's not as bad as one from an -ahem- "warm" car. You can drive on a salvage title.

ae1969 - sorry to read about your loss. Saw the pics of the car - one of Edmonton's finest 951s.

As for getting rid of stuff, you might try Al's Auto Wrecking in Edmonchuk. Or even try Sumaru's Auto Repair - Neil, the son, used to own Al's. He may be interested in some stuff.

For that matter, I may be as well and I'm only 2.5 hours out of the city. I'm pretty cash poor, though.

ae, i may be interested in purchasing your rear lower splitter (under the bumper)... what color is your car? red? PM me if you are selling.
