951: hard time starting, dies later
So, no spark, fuel seems ok. The car doesn't want to start and eventualy it will - otherwise the starter is just turning the engine. Also, it will die while in operation (on the road).
I figure it could be the engine speed/refrence sensors. Does anyone know: 1) How often the wiring in the connectors at the back of the plenum go out. 2) Is the spacing between the sensors and the flywheel pins a critical measurement? -jamie

The wiring doesn't usually just "go out" if it hasn't been touched as far as I know.
The spacing is absolutely critical or the system won't read right. If you're not getting a reading from the sensors though, you won't get fuel either. DME shuts off fuel if the engine stops running. Aaron

thanks.
now does anyone know if i can check the resistance of the sensors to see if they are good or bad. i fgure i should check that before i go down and start adjusting stuff.

That's just it, you say you're getting fuel. If you know for certain that the injectors are firing, the sensors are good. Period.
If the DME cannot get an intelligible reading from the sensors, it considers the engine to be off and will shut down the injectors and the fuel pump. These are go/no go things. If they are flaky the car will not struggle, it will die _right now_. It will be just like turning off the key. There will be no attempt at running.

Sorry for the late update, I replaced both sensors and it worked beautifully. Thanks for the help Aaron.
