Replacement Carpet

I know the answer will be "You get what you pay for...." but,

I was looking on the net for some less expensive carpet kits for my 944, and saw a kit of 15 pieces for under $270... at www.stockinteriors.com .

Anyone use this kit before? Since it's 1/2 the price of OEM kits, I thought it might be worth the look.

Anyone use this kit before?

Bart

*shrug* they look pretty legit. Its true you get what you pay for, but maybe in this case, its not going to be as bad as most? I'd say go for it. I very well may go for it this winter. Ill be redoing the interior of my car, if you feel like waiting, if i decide to get it, ill let you know what its like.

I just ordered a similar "kit" from http://www.autoupholsterykits.com/ for $249.00 plus $45.00 shipping. From what I understand these "kits" are all made by the same company and are sold by different distributors.

I'd go with OEM if you can afford it... My carpet was crap (IMO) before i replaced it with aftermarket from Original Fit Interiors. The process was a *****, took basically three full days, and it never fit (or felt) the same as the old stuff. Wish I had just spent more time deodorizing (or just living with the "Old Car Scent." You might trying dye if you're unhappy with the color.

I want to know too. I need to do this job soon and don't know where to get the carpet from. Luckily, it's not hard to match black carpet. I'm also a little unsure on taking out the whole ceter console.

i know on the 85.5+ removal of the center is easy. its like 8 screws, and it will slide right out. Never dont it on an early so ill find out soon enough.

heres a decent question: will late carpet go in an early car? Odds are not, but i've got a good condition black from a late, and its worth a shot asking.

removing the center console in the early is difficult but not impossible. you'll need a low profile 90 degree philips. just go slow and be careful... it's not worth breaking stuff to get it out. if you get stuck, take a break. label and bag screws. label connectors with at least colored tape.

these are all things i've learned from doing it 5 or so times, both ways.

seaboltman - good point, something i overlooked. if you can find a complete carpet set out of another car (or even just the pieces you need the most) that's definitely the best option in terms of fitment and quality (not to mention price).

is that a round about way of saying, yes a carpet from a late car will fit in an early car?

haha, no, sorry. most of it will fit.. but i've never seen the inside of a late car in person. i wish i could tell you for certain. there aren't that many pieces, but don't overlook the small stuff like the door pockets or the sides of the center console (on an early).

I'm not loking forward to it, I just need the bottom carpet for the front floorboards and the bottom and sides for the hatch really, not really replacing all of it
