another project car

I just bought this as a prject on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RED-PORSCHE-944-2D-UNFINISHED-PROJECT-RIMS-TIRES-BUMPR_W0QQitemZ4588609472QQcategoryZ6434QQrdZ1QQcm dZViewItem

its realitively complete and rust free.It has documented service records and misc other stuff so i think its a fair buy. now just to clean it up and make it proper again.

I would like to do the turbo nose conversion what all parts are needed. also has anyone ever sucessfully done a cabrio conversion on one of these cars?

Looks like there's a lot of work to do there. But hey....a project is a project right!!

You'll need a turbo hood and head light covers to do the proper front end conversion.

to do a sucessful cabrio conversion on a non-cabrio car, you would have to do a lot of work:

First, you would have to assemble the parts for the roof. Not cheap, or easy.

After that you would have to cut off the roof, and make it look good at the same time, then install the cloth roof (dont the 944 covertables not have the glass hatch?).

After you have the whole roof situation sorted out, you then have to add supports to the chassis. Alot of the weight of the car is supported by the roof. If you remove it, then it will sag in the middle. This is why when companys make a convertable out of normal cars, is is heavier, and usualy dont handle as well. They have to add alot of support the chassis and its still not as stable.

Trust me, if you dont add those supports to the chassis, the car will literally fall apart... and i have video proof if you want.

Its an expensive, long, and frankly possibly dangerous process if you dont know what you're doing, or you dont add enough support or something along those lines.

I wouldnt do it. The standard 944 looks better anyway.

I am just one of those custom car freaks it was an idea
but not sure if ill go with it

yep looks like alot of work but it will be a good project car no rust and a strong runner that makes it a fair bit better.
