944 Alarm Problem. Advice needed.
Ok so I bought a third 1989 944 with an alarm. I do not now if it's factory or not.....
The alarm starting going off...Its one of those alarms where the horn just doesnt stop. the car would crank, but not start. We disconnected the battery, but as soon as we reconnected it, the horn started going off again and the car would not start....Anyone have any ideas as to solve this? We do not have a remote for the car, and I don't know if it ever even had one. Thanks in advance. |

bypass the factory alarm first off. process is on www.clarks-garage.com
If it's not the factory alarm and an aftermarket one, post back. Most install shops put starter kill relays in. most alarms will also fault back to whatever they were doing before they lost power so that would be normal and correct. Is it the normal car horn or does it sound like a different kind of horn? That can also tell us if it's factory or aftermarket.

The horn that is going off is located behind the battery |

Definatly sounds aftermarket.
You will need to find the alarm. Check up under the driver side dash. Might be about 2"x4" and have a bunch of wires coming out of it. If they put one that's made by DEI I can help you out, if not then check out www.the12volt.com

If it's the horn behind the battery, then it probably IS the factory alarm.
The alarm module is located under the DME, in the passenger footwell. Look at Clark's as mentioned above for the process to disable. This is assuming of course that you have the factory alarm key and the key slot (The one in the DS quarter panel) is in the vertical position. If it is horizontal, then the alarm is active. Good luck, Keith

Factory alarm is run through the car horn, which isn't near the battery.

On my 90 S2 the alarm horn is behind the battery and yes it is factory. I've had to unplug it several due to a bad alarm relay.

I agree, the factory alarm on all 944's I have seen has a seperate horn for the alarm located in the cowl area. Is there a lock located to the right of the drivers side door? If so then you can remove it and simulate a "key off" by opening or closing the contacts on the back of the switch, dont just ground the 2 wires it shouldnt work.

Do you guys have pictures of this? Cause with all the cars I have had or parted out I have never seen a seperate horn unless it was after market. And they all had the factory alarm.

Those are old alarm start kill systems. Real old actually. It should just interupt the starter, so removing it and putting things back together shouldn't be too much of an issue.
