I'm looking for an n/a 944 for DE purposes. I have no trailer and will probably drive it a bit for commuting, so as to keep everything lubed up, thus a pure track car isn't for me.
I have been looking for a couple of weeks and have seen the prices all over the map, usually excessive. I don't keep up with the Porsche Market Letter or Exxcellence, so I don't know what the current prices of these things should be. Assuming all maintenance was done, what is a realistic price for n/a 944s?

I'd pay $4-6K for a nice NA 944.

In excellent mechanical condition and decent cosmetic condition with records, I think the usual market runs from around $3750 for an '83 to maybe $6250 for an '89.
Unless it was somehow very distinct or colelctible, I would not pay more than $7k for an NA, and I wouldn't rule out finding a great condition NA for under 3k if you really look around. For DE purposes, I would probably lean toward an earlier car. They have a little less weight, and the money you'll save over a later car can finance some track goodies.

Whats a car worth?........Worth what you are willing to pay.....once you have seen it. Proof is in the pudding, Steve. Harrisonburg is not that far from NoVa.
Just don't want to see someone so close geographically, miss out on exactly what they are looking for. Brian |

LOL, Brian. I'm quite certain it's nicer in person than on the web, but it's not quite what I'm looking for.

Alright, Ron you have a PM. Maybe more out of curiousity than anything.

Shop around, do your research before you even look at one.
I found my 83 for $3k, put probably $1k of parts into it, and it's quite solid. Not set up for any kind of racing, but a great DD car. So definitely take a look at the deals. Maybe I lucked out, but it's worth a look at a lower-priced one than $4k. |

FYI, I just paid $5,500 for a 1986 NA 944. Car had lost the timing belt so the top end was rebuilt with new belts and water pump. Fairly new shocks, tires and brakes. Older repaint in same red color. Finish was dull but it is polishing out very well. The AC does not work. I probably paid a little too much but the body is like new which is a big plus in rust prone Maine. No dents and not a speck of rust anywhere.
I have a full list of routine maintenance items to do in the spring, just start out on the right foot. It includes new engine mounts and replacement of the hood insulation which was deteriorated. The 1985 1/2 and later cars are improved and more desireable. Unless you are mechanically inclined look for one in good condition.
