Heater blower not working
Got in the cab tonight for a drive, went to turn the blower on to heat the inside up but it would only operate on number "4" on the heater blower knob.
Haven't checked the fuses etc yet as it was dark - heating is fine - nice and warm but the blower wouldn't operate on anything other than the highest. Is this a cmmon problem with s2's?

it is on the (in england) driver side. it has a wireharness with a flat plug on the end that goes into it. it has 2 phillips(cross headed) screws holding it in. 2 minutes to change it.

Is that on the inside of the car or under the hood?

Just got the resistor out and soaked it in white vinegar - haven't tested it yet but it doesn't look too good - not sure what the coating is around the large coils but it's heavily cracked although the coils aren't damaged.

I think the coating is just a ceramic that keeps the coils in shape/from shorting into each other. I wouldn't bother messing with it just replace it, sounds like you have a corroded solder joint or something and soldering nichrome is damn near impossible.
