Most you've put in at a fill up?

Yesterday it was the most i've ever done in a 944, 17.305 gallons. I think it has a 17 or 17.5 gallon tank, so thats not to bad. Last fillup was mid October.

New style has something like a 20 gallon tank, the earlies have about a 17.5.

I must have some kind of OCD about the gas level in the car, I tend to have more than a half tank at all times. I think the most I've put in is about 12.5.

19.1 gallons that was expensive and I was in the middle of the desert

I USUALLY PUT IN AROUND 17.5 GALLONS. I RUN IT UNTIL THE LIGHT COMES ON AND THEN RUN IT ABOUT 40 MILES OR SO BEFORE FILLING IT UP. I MAY HAVE PUT 18 GALLONS IN IT ONCE OR TWICE. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO PUT IN THE ENTIRE 20 GALLONS-EVEN WHEN YOU ARE DRY BEACUASE THERE IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE A POCKET OF AIR TO ALLOW FOR EXPANSION. I DOUBY YOU CAN PUT IN MORE THAN 19 GALLONS OR SO WHEN EMPTY.

In my 1988 NA I've put in 18.23 gallons. I must have been running on fumes when I pulled into the station :-)

First: Do not type in all caps. It is bad form and is the equivalent of shouting.

Second: There are separate expansion chambers that are not counted in the tank volume. A fully dry tank should be able to have 21 gallons pumped into it. Remember that the manual lists fluid capacities, not tank volumes.

I usually put in $20 at a time, thats usually good for half a tank. The one thing i HATE about the 944's is how inaccurate the fuel gauge is. I have tried cleaning the grounds and the fuel level sender with no luck. My gauge reads 3/4 when its actually full...this happened on both my early style interior 924S and my late style 944.

I think a good question is how far have you gone on one full tank of gas! I usually get about 300-350 miles depending on my driving until i get to the empty, i have a feeling i have atleast another 1/4 tank to go..to scared to let it run down until the light. Who knows if it even still works. I dont want to suck up all the crap at the bottom of the tank.

I filled up tonight (to the tippy top). Just prior, the needle was below "E", and started bouncing from bottom to top like it was throwing an epileptic fit.

It took 13.5 gallons to fill. (Late model tanks are 21 gallons (2 gallon reserve).. so figure 19 gallon tank). Even with my horrible math skills I had about 5 1/2 gallons still in the tank before I hit reserve, or 7 1/2 gallons total. Hard to get a good handle on fuel economy when I dont know how many gallons i've consumed. :(

Terverun...last fill up was mid October....you ain't driving enough!

I never let mine go down far. I generally drive mine only on weekends and I usually fill it back up right before I bring it home.

Livewirevoodoo, Can't you fill yours to the top and then set the odometer to 0, drive some distance and fill it up again and divide the gallons used by the miles to figure fuel economy. The trick for you it appears is you have no idea when you are really on empty. I don't have a gas gauge on my bike so what I did there was fill it up and zero odometer and that gives me a general idea of how much gas I have consumed. Not perfect, but it seems to work on the bike.

im my 83 I've had the Reserve light come on and i fill the tank up pretty quick after i see taht ( happened a few times ) I've filled the tank up to about 13 or so gallans is when the pump stops pumping, one time i drove it when the reseve ligh was one( have no clue how many galons reseve is ) And it took about 14-15 gallons to fill up all the way untill the gass spilled out a little.
So about 15 Max on my 83

And the fuel comes from bottom of tank on my early 44 so i think i'de suck up crap even if it was fulll but lucky i've already changed the fuel filter PITA

I get about 200miles to the tank when gauge read's empty w/o Reseve light goin on* thats when i drive it like i stole it IE: porsche*

I used to run 250 milles to the tank * when i take it easy*
250Milles per tank. Who has got better in a early modle, Do i have a gass guzler ?

Dougster 12-28-2005 07:23 AM

I think in 85.5 they went up to 21.2 gals
I have put in 17.5 in mine...

Gotten over 500 miles/a tank on hiway trips...

In my old version '85, I've run 350+ miles on 12.5 gallons. Most of that was Carolina back roads but with some driving in Charlotte NC.

My log indicates about 16 hours of active driving time on roads in my car since October 27th. started keeping track of hours and locations as soon as I realised my Odometer did not work so if i ever sold the car, I'd have a record. I also keep track of stop lights that stop me each run.

I need to hunt, I may have a more recent receipt around. My 944 is my daily transportation, I live within walking distance of where I work, so never drive there. Was out of town doing a tradeshow withthe company which took up a week, plus weather knocking out some of the times i'd of normaly gone out. All in all, yseterday I fired it up and just drove for a bit, then filled it up. I like to drive at least once a week.

Interesting to note I can probably go another 50 or so miles after the fuel light kicks in, I'll keep that in mind if I have to get somewhere and then fill up later.
