Oil Pressure Opinions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have basically a fairly common oil pressure problem. I just finished re-installing the head, changed belts and rollers, and front crank seal on my 90 S2. The car runs great but after about thirty minutes the oil pressure drops to one bar at idle. On start up I get a slight pressure hesitation before it hits five bars then slow it drops to one in about thirty minutes and all the oil lights come on.

I've searched the threads and after digging through most of the useless posts(which is why most peolpe like myself hate to use that feature), I've found a few possible causes but not many have chimed in whether they solved their problem.

I've re-torqued the main pulley but it didn't help. This Thursday I'm gonna remove and re-install the main pulley and change the sender. While I'm under there I'll check the OPRV.

Is there anything else I should check?

I'd also like to know about the #2 bearing. Is a bad bearing a cause for low oil pressure or low oil pressure a cause for bad bearings?

I don't hear any noise from the bottom end but I do get a lot of lifter noise after the pressure drops. The lifter are new so I'm pretty sure their not bad.

Are there any other possible causes I should look for?

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

did you change the oil and filter. did you use the same brand filter and oil or change the viscosity? I hear alot of people recomending 20w-50 for the 944 n\a

Here it is, straight from the owners manual. You know, if I was the one saying this, people would be arguing, but how can you argue with the manufacturer?

I can see that as normal but for him to be asking it seems his pressure was higher than what he has now so a considerable drop has to be explained. From my experience oil viscosity can have a big effect on pressure, even to the point where moving to the next lower grade can make the idiot light come on a car without a gauge. My car with 20-50 may idle hot at @ 2. Change to 10-30 and id may drop to 1 and even get a little better mpg, personally I dont like to see it that low. Maybe just me but when you go much lower than that the next step lower is usually acompanied by noise and wallets opening.
