944s heads

Can 16 valve 944s heads be used in place of 8 valve 944 heads?
if so then what gains would i expect?

Gains: $4,000 rebuilds when the cam chain breaks rather than the $1,500 for an N/A. Water jackets don't match on some blocks.

No problem. I think some guys over at rennlist.com Have had some talk about the swap but Im not sure. They where mostly thinking of using it for a 3.0L 16v 951 witch would be killer. In the 944 NA engine I played around on a engine program I had on my PC and the biggest restriction besides the AFM is the head. The head is very hard to make flow with a SOHC and 8v, its very hard to get a wide power band. So a DOHC would be sweet. Do some more searching and Im sure you will find more info.

LOL. no problem, Just about all the guys here a GREAT and very helpful, You just gatta give them a chance, maybe open a post that says HI or something, Problem is you just happened to ask the "Turbo My NA" question that just about everyone hears about once a week. Most of the peopl that ask it are silly 16 years olds that have no idea what a oil filter looks like let alone do a turbo conversion, But it seems you are one of the few that have some type of idea of whats involved. Anyway dont worry Im sure others will chime in with some SUPPORT sooner or later

I recently asked a similar question about the 928, whether or not the 4-valve heads would fit onto an older 2-valve motor. The cam drive on the older cars is in the exact same location on the 4-v cars, and as you know, the secondary cam on the DOHC setup is driven off that first cam that's driven by the timing belt.

The answer I got was, "yes, it's possible, but you'd be better off getting a couple Euro cams and bolting them onto your 2-v motor". The Euro cams are a higher lift, and piston clearance would be a consideration.

P.. thanks for you reply my car is a euro car so there would be no need
to switch cams, i think im staying 8v and getting some lensay racing heads.

as for phillysmostwanted i have some knoledge of the stock motors
but mostly MFI 2.8 V6s and not a whole lot about TBI 2.5 4 cyls

pleae tell me the year of the car and explain the symtoms

its a 1984 2.5 4 cyl. he picked it up for $300... non running

has new plugs wires, cap, rotor, has not checked the fuel pump or filter (i think one of these or both are the problem), but fuel runs out of the fuel lines when they are disconnected (sorta), no gas is squirting out of the tbi when cranking, runs completly fine on starter fluid, he thinks the tbi is clogged as it sat for about 1 and 1/2 years, he got a tbi rebuilt kit and is gonna see if that works

everything else is pretty much ruled out, i think if the tbi rebuild kit doesnt solve it a fuel pump and or filter will. any other ideas on what it could be?

his throttle cable is completly torn apart too. some wires are disconnected here and there inside the car (we cant find where any of them go??) hes looking to do a v8 archie swap by the end of the summer, so some good info on that would be great too if you dont mind.

the 84' is the least reliable fiero with the most possible problems.
i dont even keep 84's unless they are one of the #2000 indy 500
pace cars.

the first thing to cheak with anything fuel delivery related are the fuses
the next thing would be to check your fuel lines from the sending unit
all the way to the throttle body. And BE SURE TO REPLACE THE OLD FUEL FILTER! oce you have checked all lines and hoses for crimps, cuts, and clogs then try agian if this does not fix it
then you will have to step to the next level of labor and drop the
tank and replace in tank filter (sock) and go ahead and replace the
fuel pump while you have the tank out DONT FORGET TO REINSTALL
RUBBER TANK SEAL there will be a new one with your new fuel pump
now try again. still not working? (unlikely) well the can only be two more
things next step replace tbi injector (rebuilt flow tested is fine) if that does not fix it then your ECM is all thats left.

or skip all of this nonsence for a friggin 95HP 4banger
and drop in a small or big block chevy using a mount and adaptor plate
kit for V8 Archie v8archie.com and feel the instant 300 percent boost
in power in a 300-1000 HP 2400LB street leagle go-kart!

the total swap would range from $2000-$4000 depending
on engine and kit choice.

and stomp just about anything on the road and be every bit as nimble
as original when its time to go auto crossing sunday!

i have the same thoughts.. with the money he is putting towards the 2.5 he should be saving it for a swap. hes already spent like $3-400
