Is this right?

Hi, and a happy new year. Something I have noticed while renewing my discs and handbrake shoes, the adjusters',the ones that resemble a toothed gearwheel, gets in the way of the top retaining spring, in fact the spring virtually passes between the teeth. At first I thought it's that way to stop the adjuster from turning in use, but I am not convinced, anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Yep. Tis normal. Otherwise, vibration would be doing re-adjusting for ya all the time, and probably not in a good way.

A lot of brake systems, work this same way. No expert here. Just my "limited" experiences.

Oh, DO make SURE, you put it all back together the way its suppose to go. Springs on the correct side and orientation. It may save ya more heartaches later.

Thanks Granite, that's a relief, according to my diagram the top spring goes behind the shoes and the bottom one is in front and the adjuster is bias to the rear of car. Btw I've now found a siezed handbrake cable, and I'm struggling to remove it! Have you been there? If so any tips. It doesn't help working in a cramped garage and with limited ground clearance!
