Ride share/Car share?

Has anyone seen ads for a place that offer a car for you to drive and then when done you leave a key to the next renter/member. Kind of a timeshare concept it seems.

So this in mind I wonder if I should place a 944 out there for this very use and earn a bit of money and allow folks a car that rocks. Interesting concept! I would rent a 944 to get to work in!

When I lived in Boston, I used zipcars sometimes: http://www.zipcar.com/]. They had a Mini Cooper and a BMW 3-series, which were fun to test out. They've been doing this for a couple of years. I've recently seen ads in San Francisco for something similar: http://www.citycarshare.org.

But these are more like rental cars where you do all your paperwork online and just pickup the car (like Hertz Gold). Some company still owns the vehicle and is responsible for making sure vehicles aren't trashed, stolen, maintained or abused -- which are the main problems when it comes to time shares for vacation properties.

Yep that is the one I believe. It was in San Francisco. I found it a bit unnerving knowing the key is left in the ignition and the renter gets a lockbox type of key that activates the door locks. I recall the renter saying "you need to be sure you lock the car because the keys are in the ignition".
