Door problems

My door latch on the driver's side is not working. When I pull the latch from the outside it does not disengage the mech. However the door can be opened from the inside. How should I fix this?

you have to remove the door panel and check to see if the rod is still connected to the handle. Then see why the rod came off. It could be as simple as a clip, or the handle can be broken where the rod connects.

Take the outer door handle off, there is no need to remove the door trim panel on early cars, all the work can be done from outside.
Then you can see what has either broken or fallen off. If the handle feels just really stiff, then removing the screw (above the lock on the inner door edge) and spraying a lube in there might solve the problem.

Lubing the door handles and locks is something that should be done frequently anyway.
