Angry Estimation on belt tension

Hi, currently fixed my 944 w/ a valve job, new belts, ect. Drove a few days ago, balance shaft belt broke. Belt didnt touch the timing belt so head is fine. NOW..

I replaced the balance shaft belt, but was wondering just how tight it needs to be tensioned? And the same with my timing belt. I own a Haynes manual that tells me "go to a dealer, go to a dealer." Is there a way to bypass spending even more money and just doing it myself?

1. My timing belt is on relatively tight but feels a little loose on the belt part that connect the cam to the crank. Should this be tightened more and how much more?

2. My crank shaft belt is on not too tight and not too loose. Medium, so to speak. Should this be tightened more or less?

Thank you for any opinions, and if push come to shove, if anyone lives in Central-Northern California, and would like to give me a little hand, appreciated.

THANKS

90 degree twist in the longest span will work. Make sure the balance shafts/pulleys are lined up correctly or you will get vibrations.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

I have the belt on alright I think, but I am getting a lot of vibrations currently. When it idles and when I rev it up. Can you please explain how the balance shafts/pulleys are supposed to be lined up? I feel like I am very close to completion, or also very close to breaking my car again. Thanks SoCal

Engine at top dead center:

If you still have a high frequency vibration after alignment then one of the pulleys may not be properlt aligned on the balance shaft. Each pulley has two keyways.

You must not have seen the resources here. Clark's Garage index

Go there, look under camshaft, and balance shafts, and study it. It should answer most all your questions. Pay close attention to the direction in which you turn the belt tension rollers also.

Good luck.
