Vibrations

When the motor mounts go, does the vibration get worse with time or it just vibrates the same all the time. On my car it seems it's been getting worse mostly on the right side(at idle). It seems to go away at about 1200 rpm. Could it be something else? Thanks

You're describing the tell tale symptoms of bad mounts. About a $400 fix if you take it to a shop; less than half that if you do it yourself. Yet another decent write up found at www.clarks-garage.com.

Is there a difference between mounts for an automatic and manual? I've seen ads that say "not for automatic".

Hmm. Not too familiar with that one but its nothing that you can't clarify over the phone with the place you're getting them from. Just make sure you go with the factory ones - there are knock offs for about 1/2 price out there. People have had bad luck with these in the past. Also go with the 951 ones if they haven't superceeded all others by now (I believe they have).

Well while changing out motor mounts this weekend i found a few other problems not major i hope. First i found i needed to replace the sway bar bushing on the right side, it had been badly deformed by steering fluid leak then i found leak( shown in diagram below). Also while raising the engine a little at a time just as described in Clark's procedure after a few minutes i noticed some coolant dripping to the floor i went ahead and finished installing mounts lowered engine and it quit. Is that normal? Where could i get the fittings and hose shown below? Does this hose have pressure? Can i just go to the parts store and buy new bolts or do they have to be a certain kind? Thanks

Green is hose and fittings i need, Red end was just hanging there

No power steering fluid pressure. It's there to balance the air pressure in the tie rod boots as one side compresses and the other expands. Means the seals in the ends of the rack are leaking.

You need to find the source of the coolent leak. Overheating kills the engine very quickly.

As for the bolt question. I'm not sure as I've never had mine off, but since air has to pass through the line, the bolt you are missing would require a hole in the middle and through the side to allow air transfer. SoCal Driver correct me if I am wrong on this. If you can't find bolts or the hose, check out some dismantlers in your area and see if they have one. Ebay usually has some dismantlers that are selling something...they might be a good source for your missing parts, email them and see if they have what you need. If you need help finding one, let me know and I check my sources. If all it does is carry air, you might be able to put nipples in there and use hose clamps with a normal hose at least for the short term. Not the preferred method, but it would transfer air. You definitely don't want to leave it open as that's probably why your seals are leaking. Dirt probably got in there and cut the rubber seals that hold in the fluid. Make sure to fix the seals and definitely the coolant leak. It's never normal to move anything and have coolant leak.

Yes, motor mount part #s have been superceeded to the turbo mounts. The mounts do not differ from 5spd to automatic.

Thanks fellas. After reading my post i realized it is a bit confusing. Razor i meant the bolts for the new mounts, the hose fittings(plastic ) just pop in place i guess held in there by the o-rings. Anyway i think i need to 2 8x38mm bolts and 2 8x42mm bolts. Now just waiting on parts. I suppose they sell a kit to rebuild the steering rack, might as well order that also. I can't seem to find coolant leak. Thanks again

WOW! What a difference. Feels like a new car. Finished with the mounts and the leak turned out to be the top radiator hose clamp was a little loose. The only thing now is a little quick vibration upon take off; it seems it's coming from the lower left. Only on take off though. Thanks again for all the responses.
