Ohio 944 Update
All,
Thanks to Pete in Columbus for offering to give some assistance on this job. Should go smoothly. Here is a real treat for you. I went to the service center to pick the car up and got the itemized repair list. The repair was titled "Timing belt service" for $3033.00 excluding sales tax. Here's what I was going to get for my three grand: timing and balance belts one pulley water pump - $800 dist cap rotor button - $114 plugs, wires seals The total on the above mentioned parts was $1433. Labor was a humble $1600 even. I went through the old posts and didn't see anyone paying anything near that for a timing belt job. I think they may have inflated the price just because they didn't want to do the work. They had two late model Lambo Diablos on their lifts when I was there. Bad thing was, there was no one over the age of 25 in the service center. One more troubling sign in my opinion. Not knocking the younger crowd, but there is no substitute for experience. At any rate, I thought everyone might like a chuckle to start out their day. I will update after the repair is completed. If any Buckeyes are out there and need to get this work done, but are afraid to try, please let me know, as you are more than welcome to come and observe to see what is going on. Frank

Wow, Frank, that's outrageous! Come on down here for your next belt service; maybe the friendly folks over in Cary can save you some cash. Stay here while the work is being done & we'll get you out for some REAL barbecue, lol.
Had my (first) front of engine service done last month, the following being the results: Water pump, $290.70 THermostat, $15.57 Gaskets & Seals, $54.00 Timing & Balance shaft belts, $77.00 Rollers, $67 Tensioners, $58 Rotor & Cap, $85 Misc, $84 Total around $750 in parts Labor was $583.00 Grand total with tax and environmental fees was about $1,400; the shop I went to was recommended by most owners I had spoken with in the area (dealership wanted $1,500 for the FOE service alone). ![]()

Frank,
I never got a PM. Try again or give me a shout if you want. BTW, based on those prices, I'll be glad to cut you a deal and underbid that shop at 3grand even LOL........I'll even toss in an oil change on the house (synthetic extra of course)....Of course I'm well over 25. Pete |
