Fuel Injector ?'s... PICS

ok so as you know im rebuilding and freshening up my engine, trying to get all the problems sorted out.. anyways i got around to the injectors, 1 injector boot was cracked, removed all 4 injectors.. 2 boots were destroyed during removal, the other 2 were fairly damaged, the plastic was sooo brittle. anyways, i decided that i was going to have them cleaned, and whilst i do that ill change the o-ring seals and injector boots.

i got the injector boots from autozone.. not my first choice but i'll live with it.. i think, the brand of the part is "GP Sorensen" anyone used these? they seem just fine to me. anyways ive provided a pic below,

http://x2.putfile.com/2/3300193679.jpg

the top left corner is the new o-ring seal, top right is the injector; to show to top o-ring seal, bottom left is the old o-ring, bottom right is a plastic washer sort of thing,

few questions.
1. the top and bottom o-ring seal are the same correct?
2. the plastic washer, do i reuse the old ones?
3. cant really see in this pic, but there is a metal clip on the injectors, i noticed they are only on 2 of my injectors, they dont seem to be serving a purpose, what are they for?

this is a big post for a simple question, just with all the stories ive heard of engine fires i dont want to mess around with this, id like to do it right. engine fire = bad.

Metal clip? At the top? It's to hold the injector to the fuel rail for handling. The four bolts to the head (cam cover) hold the whole assembly to the engine.

The most important o-ring is the one at the fuel rail. If this is pinched it will squirt (not leak) lots of fuel. The bottom one will just be a vacuum leak that is next to impossible to find.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

here is a pic of the metal clip, its about 1/4 down from the top of the injector, is this what your talking about?

The injector cap is there to help the spray pattern. The end of the pintle is supposed to have a small flat on it. This fans the fuel out into a cone. The cap/hat controls the outside of that cone.

The o-ring at the discharge end fits into the counter bore in the intake manifold -- a high vacuum area. The o-ring at the tip fits into the stamped steel cup on the fuel rail. This has 30 to 50 psi of fuel pressure when the engine is running. AFAIK both o-rings are the same.

If anything is important it's that the injectors filter screen is clean, there is a flat on the pintle and that all of the caps are the same. You can back flush the injector with a foot or two of fuel hose pushed over the discharge end tip, fill it with solvent and hit it with a blast of shop air that forces the solvent backwards through the injector. This will blow most of the crud out of the screen filter on the intake side.

One tip when you put the rail back in. Dab some transmission fluid on the top o-ring of the injector. This keeps the o-ring from pinching or ripping when you press the fuel rail down onto the injector. Ask me how I know :-)

how do you know..? i have a feeling its something along the lines of "engine fire", transmission fluid then?? what dot rating? lol a guy recommended to put spark plug grease on the top o-ring seal? any thoughts on that?

A/C idle control valve. Opens when the compressor kicks in to keep the idle close to 900 rpm.
