need advice
ok first i would like to say high to everyone!
second im looking to get a 944 and ive found one locally..... here is the add info: 1986 Porsche 944 2.5L N/A. In excellent condition. Originally purchased as a project car but now must go. Entire front suspension was rebuilt in Sept. New parts: Bilstien Struts, H&R Springs, Ball Joints, Tie-rod Ends, A-arms rebuilt with Mono-ball Bearings, Sway bar Bushings, Wheel Bearings/Races, Brake Discs Freashly Cut, Ferodo Brake Pads, Stainless Steel Brake Lines, Master Cylinder & Resovior, Rear Bilstien Shocks, Nology Coil, Jacobs Plug Wires, Fuel Dampener & Regulator, Fuel Filter, Bosch +4 Platnium Plugs, New Distributor Cap & Rotor. Car was purchased in Jul/Aug 2005 and recently recieved the suspension rebuild, brake overhaul, alignment, and tune-up. Priced over NADA but reflects new suspension ($1500 est) and misc parts. Passes emissions as if brand new. Handles as if on rails! Definitely a great/fun car to drive! Interior is in great shape as well. Aftermarket AM/FM/CD player. Have more pictures if you'd like them e-mailed or call to set up a time for a viewing. Asking $4500 obo. so the pictures look nice and im going to check it out im person on saturday. i have searched and read alot of good info for what to look for but im concerned. the owner can provide me with maintance records but during a phone conversation said that there was some missing info and that sort of thing(more like he was unsure as to what had been done). now he has only had the car for 6months which i think maybe a sign of "problems" that he doesnt wish to fix. moving on i plan to get as much info out of him as a can and try to get a good test drive... any advice as to how i should approach this? i dont mind working on my cars but i dont like to have to fix stupid problems that were caused by neglect. so let me know what you guys/gals think, fair price, possible problems, maybe something to look for that i may have missed from "Clark's garage" page. thanks in advance -Adam |

Where in the world are you? This will determine the going price for the car. One will never sell a 944 for what one has invested in it.

Adam,
Welcome to the board! Can't overemphasize PPI - worth whatever money it costs to open your eyes. It sounds like you are well on your way to getting this right but unless I missed it ask the biggies: Why are you selling?!?!?!?! What else needs (was going) to be done? Good luck!

thanks for the fast responses guys!
i just checked kelly blue book for my area and the condition described and the photos/info sent would put this car in the $2800, not including the work he did. i dont know how you guys feel about kbb, i find its more of a starting point at least. im going to look for a ppi place tomorrow or insist they do it. thanks again -adam |

There are a lot of unanswered questions, aren't there? Sounds like he was setting it up for the track which isn't all bad, but it makes you wonder how he was driving it. Follow the advice of EarlR and GostRidr and get the PPI. Parts for these cars are expensive and it's even harder to find someone that knows how to work on them properly. I would also work on the price, however if all that was done, that is a lot of dollars in parts....but that's his loss in my opinion. Warning...these cars are addictive.

KBB is great for Ford and Chevy or any other more common car, but these are niche market vehicles. At $4,500, if the car is truly clean and in great shape, it's a bargain.
