Question Electric Air Valve?

What exactly is the function of this valve on an early car?

Does it have anything to do with the car's ability to idle?
Can it be removed?
Has anyone removed all of the idle controls...all hoses and Idle Stabilizer Valve?
Thanks.

Controls idle when the A/C compressor is running.

Removing the ISV for the S2 will cause more problems than just leaving it alone. Do make sure that all of the hoses are tight and leak free.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Thanks SoCal, Not asking for the S2.
I have an '84 Euro spec 944 with this valve on it and no A/C. The car idles like crap and I was just thinking of pulling everything out and wanted some thoughts on the subject.

Hmmm. Interesting. I'll have to look it up.

In the mean time check all of the vacuum lines to the fuel pressure regulator and damper. The rubber fittings and plastic tubing can be damaged. The FPR will over pressure the system with out vacuum.

Part number 944 606 215 00 is what I find listed for the part. Not clear as to what it's purpose is. Impression is that it is used on the crank case ventilation.

Thanks SoCal, I don't even see any reference to it in the 944 workshop manuals. Did the 924's have this valve? I wonder if it is mentioned in those manuals?
