False Alarm?
out of nowhere my temperature gauge periodically moves eratically....sometimes saying it's at where it should be and most of the time right at the beginning of redline, and sometimes back to "normal"...
the thermostat is 4 months old, I just replaced the temperature sender for the gauge, and added a low temp thermo switch within the last month.... also because of this, once my fans turn on, they stay on pretty much the whole time i'm driving... i've been driving the car like this for about a month with no "problems"...i'm thinking maybe a low temp thermostat? or is there a problem with the signal being sent somewhere between the gauge and sender? ahhhhh this is no fun ![]()

Is your coolant level low? you might have air in the system. that would cause the guage to jump around also.

well what fixed it for me was a groudn wire.. it's the one that's connected to the bell housing then goes to the firewall with a grounding strap thats about 6 inches long above that are a few brown 16 guage ground cables that may be loosed or may ned to be cleaned.. thats how it was reselved for my 83 anywho

According to an article on Clark's garage, somebody posted that doing some cleaning on the back of the speedo cluster fixed theirs. Maybe you should read that article and see if yours is doing what theirs was.

Almost sounds like a loose ground. Did you put all ground cables back in place when you replaced the transmission? Fix the fans first and see if that fixes the temperature gauge problem.
