Steering rack grease.
I've noticed one of the boots on my steering rack is split. I've got a pair on order - should be here for the weekend.
Does anyone know what grease I should use on the rack? The Porsche manual makes mention of a Volkswagen grease but doesn't actually say what type it ought to be. I'm hoping that when the boot is removed there won't be significant ingress of crap and it'll just be a matter of removing the fouled grease with a rag and replacing it with fresh goop. I just need to know what that goop is.

Just pulled the rubber gaitor and can see the setup. I was expecting a toothed section to protrude from the rack. Instead it's a chromed hyraulic ram-like design (opposite side of pinion gear) with a ball and socket on the outer end (filled with moly grease. Does the section of chrome ram need to have a smear of grease? Or is it supposed to be dry like a motorcycle slider? I had a little oil on mine - probably ingress from the split. The external rubber was covered in what looks like engine oil - probably spillage from top-ups over the years causing the rubber to perish. If it does need to be greased - what type?
The Porsche manual is pretty vague and just says to coat the fully extended tie rod ends with VW AOF 063 000 04. Not sure if they're referring to the balls joints or the chromed shaft -although I can't see why they'd mention the need to fully extend the rods if it was just the ends that needed greasing. I've heard tell that Audi used some sort of silicon grease in this area top stop the groan noise coming from the rack when going lock to lock. Cheers in advance.
