How to change the oil

Anybody have a suggestions about how to get the car off the ground other than jack stands? I really don't like being underneath them. I have wheels ramps but I get about 1/2 up and they shoot out from under the car. I've tried everything I can think of to get them to stay in place.

well if you have some good jack stands you really have nothin to worry about. Jack it up put a jack stand or two underneath somewhere good and you're all set. You can also try a car lift but thats a bit expensive however if you know a mechanic with a car lift you're all set

Have any 2x12s around? I built ramps out of 2x12s. I have 2 additional lengths that I put on top if I need the car up 2 inches higher. Lay 3 boards, miter cut so you can drive off. Nail them together, build in a 4x4 stop so you know if you're about to drive off the back end of the ramp. For me, they "ski" if you try driving up, but if you drive off them, they're fine.

Dig a 4 foot wide, 20 foot long, 3 foot deep hole in your garage floor and box it off with some fresh concrete On the serious side, I have no fears of jack stands after I triple check them. You could also jack it up and put the ramps under the tires and then lower the car onto the ramps.

Yeah. Well I can't quite jack my car up high enough to get the ramps underneath them. I changed the alternator and stuff on jack stands and just put my ramps as far under the tires as possible. That way if it fell it would go back. I don't know. I just don't like jack stands. Personal prefrence or phobia I guess. Plus it's a lot fast just to drive up on the ramps.

I worry a bit about jack stands to so what I do is leave the jack in place so even if the stand did fail the jack would "catch" it.

I went to Home Depot and bought a 2x10. Had them cut it into 18" lengths there. I jack up one side at a time and place a couple of boards under the front tire. Move to the other side and do the same. Repeat until the car is high enough. Make sure you chock the rear wheels.

jackstands

consider taking 4x4's, 3 wide and screw attaching 1/2" plywood each side. make up 6-8 thus, either jack the car up and place appropriately under the car or jack the car up one side ar a time and place under the wheels. i had a jackstand fold up years ago, probably my fault so i used this method for years, finally purchased a drive on back yard buddy lift--took all of the fun out of it! vk

I just drive one side of my car up onto the sidewalk in front of my house. There's plenty of room under the car from the gutter. Works like a charm.
