Horsepower question
I'v had this car for about 1-1/2 years now. It's an 1985/2 944 with 143 H.P. rating. It surprises me how quick it is. The first two gears are so so. Then Third, forth and fifth just pull when I get into it. I don't really drive the car hard, just now and then.
Where is the HP rating? From the engine, flywheel or rear tires? The car feels more then 143HP. Maybe the weight of the car has something to do with it, HP to weight ratio? Just a stupid question. Thanks

its probably 143 at the flywheel. i have seen quite a few people saying that their dyno, which measures HP at the wheel, showed ~120 HP.
the power to weight ratio is really good with these cars. also, that big 4 cylinder (big for a four cylinder, not big in general) does produce a good amount of torque, especially over 3K RPMs.

Think torque curve. Think road racing.

The HP was measured at the flywheel, expect to get about a 15- 20% lose of HP threw the driveline, so you will have lower dyno numbers on a stock setup. Socal is right its all about the torque curve, YOu feel the torque you dont feel the HP
