Sealant on cam gasket?

Well, I've got the new cam assembly gasket and this time I don't want it leaking a year after I put it in. Everything I've read says to not use any sealant on this gasket but I'd like to check with you folks. I'm also going to check the mating surfaces on both the head and cam box. Perhaps the machinist nicked the head and I missed it last time.

And AFJuvat - I've also got a new cam sprocket cheesehead bolt as well! "Scotty, pass me that drill!"

Any tips for cleaning injectors? I'm going to reseal them while the rail is off.

Thanks, as always you're all a great help.

NO sealant.........

Make sure the surface is nice and clean.

Torque down properly (in to out crossing over).........and then I retorque...... just cause.

Not much you can do with the injectors at home......... unless you want to play with compressed air. Search here at your own risk.

Hi, Alex. Thanks for the reply. The thing that bugs me is that I did (or I thought I did - famous last words!) exactly what you're describing.

Yeah, I saw the compressed air treatment for those things. Knowing my luck I'd just blow a hole in the shop door as the injector skips off the roof of the car and rockets out into the sunshine. Then I'd have to train the dog to go find it.

Thats why I belong to a family of pack rats and happen to have an ultrasonic cleaner laying around. I plan on cleaning a couple of sets of injectors with it this summer.

I use Hylomar on the camshaft housing gasket. I like it since it never hardens and is easy to clean up and easy to remove the gasket after as much as 10 years.

I also use Hylomar on intake manifold gaskets (to keep them from shifting while trying to set the manifold) and waterpumps.

It was suggested to me by a robber mechanic, who said that it was used on Rolls Royce engines. The only good advice he ever gave me...

If you can send your injectors to http://www.witchhunter.com. You can go to their web site and see how they clean the injectors yourself and make up your own mind about their process. Some people on this BBS say just some carb cleaner and some compressed air is enough and Im sure it does a good job. But when I went to their web site and saw the process, I bought a set of good injectors off ebay for 50.00. Im going to send them to Witch Hunter so my car wont be down the whole time waiting on the injectors. Im sure some people will argue that the compressed air way is just as good, but after seeing their process I just dont see how you can get them as clean as they do. IMHO I guess it also matters on how much money you want to spend.

Thanks, guys, for the info.

George, I've heard of folks using Hylomar before and had it recommended to me for stuff like this. Who makes it? Can I just go down to my local Bumper to Bumper to get it? Does Permatex make a similar product, or does it have to be the real McCoy? Funny thing is, this is the cam I bought off you almost ten years ago! It's been on the car and nary a problem until I had to do my head gasket.

I just want to be sure it's not going to leak again soon.
