Measuring ride height
 

Hi all,

I recently rebuilt my front shocks with Bistein inserts and Weltmeister 250lbs springs. They actually lowered the car less than I expected, but oh well...
I lowered the rear with the infamous eccentric bolt. If I measure at the wheel wells, the car is balanced out, which is what i want of course...

However, it seems now that the rear is too low compared to the front. One of my friends told me the car was a little leaning down in the back, when he saw me driving away... And apparently it looked funny.. :eek:

Should I have taken the driver's weight into consideration?

Any advice?

When you measured the ride height for the first time, did you drive the car around the block to let the suspension settle? I tend to measure from the center of the wheel to the fender and to verify i didnt make a mistake also from the ground to the fender lip. Not added as an insult, but unless you are a very heavy person, i dont think ride height would be effected so much by drivers weight.

I got about one inch of drop from the rear eccentric bolt, i have my front jacked up a bit higher to preserve my balljoints until i can change the pins.

The factory measures ride height from the top of the bumper.

Just curious, how much of a drop did you get from the Weltmeister springs in the front?

Ah, OK...Maybe it just look like it's off or something.
I'm 180 lbs, so that can't be the issue.. :)

I dropped about an inch, so my stock springs might have been worn. Anyways, that's quite close to the specs (1.25" drop). The suspension is definitely settled, so I think I just leave it like this. The car feels good and that's what it's all about, right?

Have you gotten a wheel alignment yet? They might be able to verify any problems with the ride height.

Since ive lowered the rear about a month ago, i have some pretty excessive camber on the rear wheels. Looks kinda funny..havent hand a chance to get a wheel alignment yet, need to change my control arms first.

I was surpised how much of a drop i got with the rear eccentrics, was expecting about .5 to 3/4 of an inch, but got a full inch. I am happy with it however as it gives me the look i wanted without needing to reindex the torsion bars in the back.

The huge flash in my 1/4 windows are my numbers.

Ill probably end up changing the torsion bars in the future anyway...i want to go with heavier springs in the front. I have 200lbs now, looking to eventually go with 300's.

Hmm...That actually looks pretty much like my ride height... And no, I haven't gotten an alignment yet.
I guess I see ghosts and I shouldn't think so much...

Yeah, I've been thinking about heavier torsion bars too. But since it's such a drastic operation, I guess I'll stick with the stock ones for now.
