bigbird's hesitating

Hey everyone,

Haven't driven my 44 all winter (im goin nuts! i need it back), basically put her to sleep for a few months with periodical startups to keep the blood flowin. I had this hesitation problem before i put her in my dad's shop pretty much the whole time i had her. Here's the situation. Everytime i would start her up (engine cool) and put her in gear and go she would go but then hesitate, kinda like i took my foot off the gas but i really didnt. Then when i'd go a short distance to the next stop sign and stop all the way (as we're sposed to ) and go again she wouldnt do it. I was thinkin somethin might be clogged say maybe my afm? i'm not sure, could it have been a faulty o2 sensor? This would happen even after about 2-3 minutes of warming up.

Thanks for any help.

By the way shes comin back out april 1st so im hopin to get this lil annoyance outa the way.

I dunno, something screams TPS to me, although I'm not sure.... does it only show this symptom when the engine is cold?

Don't spray any carb cleaner in the afm.

Check out www.frwilk.com or www.clarks-garage.com for a detailed explanation and write up on how to refurbish the afm wiper arm.

Could be your afm, but start with the simplest things first. Verify all vaccuum lines. How old is your fuel filter? Ever clean your throttle body? If the car has been sitting all winter, is this the same tank of gas when you parked it at the beginning of the season?

And what CJ said... Is this only while car is cold?

I wouldn't spray carb cleaner just everywhere, it's really hard on the rubber parts and orings. Follow Clark's garage instructions for proper cleaning as livewire indicated.

If it's only when cold, it could be the oxygen sensor not setting the mixture right for a cold engine. Cold engines require more fuel to run properly until they reach operating temperature. Could also be the temperature sensor not reporting correctly. That would be the first two places I would start with. If the AFM was the problem, one would think it would do it even after it got going not just during the startup part.

this is only when the car is cold, so what does that eliminate?

I don't have the previous records of the car, (t belt is good tho so no worries about that) so im not sure if the fuel filter is old or what...i havent cleaned the throttle body however i did put in some cleaner (bought from advance auto parts and put that stuff in which is sposed to clean up ur injectors n all that stuff with a full tank of gas however it still did it. So im not sure what it is....i apologize in adavanc efor any grammar errors lol i gave blood today and feel a lil week so the backspace button is lookin pretty far from me hehe

Thanks for all the help! it's greatly apreciated! as it always is
