Cam Tensioner
All was good and I was in a happy place until i learned about the cam tensioner on the 944S's. the car is runing fine and I just put a lot of money into it but I am nervous as autoX and DE season is starting. I was wondering if there would be any problem with at least changing the $30 pad/plastic ramp if I am not ready to do the whole job right now? Is there anything negative that could happen? is ti recommended to do at least the pad or does it all have to be done at once?
Thanks

You can just replace the pad. Its just as easy to replace the whole tensioner though. That was the first thing that I did when I bought my S2. Took me a total of an hour to replace the cam tensioner and pad. Do a search on the forum for a failed Cam chain tensioner, I think you will change your mind. Bite the bullet and change the whole thing, not just the pad.

i would rather do the whole thing but money is tight right now. Just wondering if I did just the pad if there is a downside. Is the tensioner what fails of the pad?

I have 30k miles on just the upper pad from Zim's.
But I made sure the bottom pad has no grooves from the chain. I already have the whole tensioner assembly and will do it at 40k. Change the pad for now and save up for the whole asembly including the J-tube..
