Stuck in 2nd...

Never take anger out on your Porsche...I made a rough shift from first to second gear and now it's stuck...It's perfectly drivable up to 50 mph or so but I'm a little worried about my fuel economy :-P

Even with the engine off and the clutch in, I can't get it out of gear...and I'm talking two hands on the shifter and a foot up on the dashboard.

Any guesses?
Thanks,
-Eric

Take it easy on it , You might want to get a little dirty and get under the car and check the tranney. On the top of the tramy there is a sytem of bars joint ect... There is a 10mm bolt that bolts down onto a cylindricle shaft. Usualy what happens ( happend to me) is that bolt comes out and renders the shiftter useles check that out.

On 2nd thought if its stuck in gear and all that was previosly siad is all in tack you might want to make sure that you're Clutch's hydralic cylinder is working to make sure it is able to diss engage the clutch. There is a hole on the bottom of the housing that will show you what's going on there

Here's a good site to check out.. Look under the shop manules and look for where it says clutch should be under "C"

good sorce for lots of info

Clutch seems to be fine, hopefully it will just be the linkage as you described.
Thanks a lot, I will check it out ASAP

Good luck. I triped out my 1st time.. Car was stuk in gear and all that bizz.. got under there and blolt was loose. Tighten it a lil then move it aroudn there is a small hole on the shaft so that the screw sets it. You should notice after you fix it that the shift's will be tighter and crisper

Regards
J

wow i remember mine got stuck in gear about 1 year ago (cant remember if it was 1st or 2nd gear) but turns out i needed a whole new tranny.. syncro decided to go out.

but i did end up with a lsd rear end after all this mess.

i hope your not in the same situation i was in. tried messing with the linkage over and over but nothing, it was very irritating.

PhillysMostWntd,
When you were stuck in gear, was your car still drivable in that gear?
Thanks,
-Eric

It had been grinding second more and more lately...I wouldn't doubt if that was what has happened now. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks again,
-Eric

yes, if i started to let out the clutch while i had some gas going to car would lurch forward (i was parked with my front tires against a curb so ya.. couldnt really go to far)

but yes, as you posted, your car has been grinding going into 2nd, my would only grind going from 3rd to 2nd. no matter what i did, i would take about 10ish seconds to get into gear and right as i eased it in *geeerrrr*, there seemed to be no way to not have it grind, then one morning after a 3 hour drive with only 2 times having the gear grinded i was turning down my street, downshifted into 2nd (without it grinding).. and it never came out.
