Due to the proportioning valve on my 951 sweating fluid, I added some today. Unfortunately, I also added a piece of plastic. The ATE fluid cans have plastic tabs right inside the can for whatever reason, and one of them broke off and is now sitting at the bottom of my resevoir.
I desperately tried to remove the plastic as it was sinking, but couldn't get to any needle nose pliers or the like before it disappeared in the blue depths of hell. So... I guess if I'm lucky, I can pump out the fluid and find the thing. However, that still leads to bleeding the clutch and crap, and that doesn't really sound that exciting. Any other ideas? I guess I won't be driving it tomorrow.

I assume it sunk right in the middle.
But, the brake master cylinder is at the bottom. So I'm assuming its sitting in/on the master cylinder.

oh man brad.
I have one ghetto idea so far- metal wire (coat hanger) wrapped in duct tape, sticky side out, run it down there? Hopefully the brake fluid doesn't undo the sticky powers. |

turkey baster frome 99 cent store see if u can sukc it up. or what i would do is disconect all the hard lines frome the brake master cyclinder stick some twisted papaer towle in the holes on the mastert cyclinder. and then if you cant get it out with the baster just pour some more brake fuild untill it flows out and re attach the lines

I would go with the turkey baster to suck out the fluid from the top then see if you can grab it with some needle nose pliers, get some long ones. I would think if you drain the fluid it will suck the plastic bit deeper into the system.

I think Dave L has the right idea. And, if you don't suck all of the fluid out, leave the pickup holes covered, you won't need to bleed the systems.

I use a huge syringe ( the kind you buy at farm stores for injecting cattle). Use it to remove almost all you fluid but keep the brake holes covered. I wouldn't worry about the clutch hose since the fluid in the hose is more than enough to keep the clutch master cylinder submersed.
Good luck.

i am thinking that the turkey baster would be the best idea. i think the brake fluid would make duct tape useless pretty quickly - that stuff is pretty caustic...

I agree with everyone else...turkey baster. You don't really want sticky stuff from the tape in there anyway. If you leave a little fluid in the bottom, you shouldn't have to bleed anything as was previously mentioned. But if Dave brings the sawzall and beer, hold off till I get there. Max X always needs more video!

LOL
I'm going to try the turkey baster method. However, knowing how these cars operate (and don't), the sawzall may have to be used, along with a sledge. If that situation arises, I will let you know, so ya'll can bring me free beer. ![]()

You might want to force your calipers open to blow some brake fluid back into the reservoir in case the plastic has actually gone down a line - bleeding in reverse??
I hear turkey basters have a number of uses, one of which is to make men obsolete... Is your car male or female?
