name the color

One color I would like to see on a 944 is this unique looking metallic orange on this ST-

Anyone know the name of the color?

Is it 'aubergine'?

Bering in mind my limited 911 knowledge and assuming it is a factory paint job I am going to have to agree with BananaClip on Tangerine. Paint number 6809 option code 018.

That tangerine 944 looks like a piece of candy. Looks very nice IMO.

I don't think the factory's tangerine is metallic.

Aubergine is a deep purplish color. Looks great on early 911s, hideous on most other cars.

The color pictured is not common. I don't think it was ever a factory color.

Would the fact that it is a factory ST make it more possible that the color is indeed a rare factory color?

I have seen ST's with a deep metallic red color that I have never seen elsewhere.

The picture is from a book about Porsche legends (Leffingwell's)- almost all of the pictures in the book are of 'original' cars.

The picture might even be from the factory archives.

The car is a 'factory effort' that was driven by Bjorn Waldegaard- it one the 1970 monte Carlo Rally.

I've been thinking about a similar color. The infiniti FX 35/45 offer a color called Burnt Copper. It is a deep dark orange. I think it would look HOT on a 944! Teruven, that picture comes close and I would like to see more. I don't remember seeing very many orange P cars so keep us posted!

Not much more info then what I posted. Car had been hit, and had been repainted to "Tangerine" as the owner described it. Nothing much more about it than that.
