oil pressure?

What is the correct oil pressure for a 1985/5 944. One idle mine reads about 3 1/2 to 4. Anything above idle goes directly to 5 and stays there. Is that normal? Car seems to be running fine.

I put in 10/40. I just checked the level and it is correct. It has the right amount of oil in it.

A "Bar" is equivalent to one atmosphere of pressure. (14.7 PSI, but for fast figuring I use 15). When cold, the pressure is, on an engine in good shape, 5 bar (75 PSI). At idle when warmed up, 2 Bar (30 PSI would be about right. Yours seems a bit high. Could be that the sender is faulty or beginning to fail. When they fail, they usually pag at 5 and stay there, even with the key on and the engine off.
