My fuel pressure regulator pumps out twice as much fuel as it is supposed to and twice as much fuel is coming out of the port at the end of the fuel rail. I think this would either shut down or flood out my engine. Comments on thoughts are appreciated. (86 944na automatic; has had a runs and dies problem; checked fuel pump, tank screen, new DME relay and filter; power gets to the pump; checked alarm too.)

Hey Austen,
How do you know too much fuel is going through the regulator? Did you put a pressure gauge on it to determine what your pressure was? If there is too much pressure, it will shut down the engine because the injectors won't be able to open. The first thing to check is the vacuum hose going to the intake. The "Y" hose should be connected on the back side of the AFM where it has full vacuum pressure from the engine all the time. If this is on the wrong connector and is getting vacuum from the front side, the fpr will not have adequate vacuum to regulate the fuel properly. If it's hooked up correctly and your pressure is still too high, then it's time to replace it. I would also suggest that you replace the damper at the same time.
