To stripe or not to stripe?

I have a factory set of negative stripes with the Porsche script...

Do you think it would look good, or too riced out if I applied them to my '44?

I'm making this a poll as I kind of want to do it, but I'm having reservations

Do you have a photo of these negative stripes. I have know idea what they look like or were they go.

roadierfl 04-15-2006 10:26 AM

They look like this and go just above the rocker panels

I dont think I would put them on my car just for the basic fact that I like to keep things clean without alot of distracting decals. I like the one simple decal across the back of the car, but at the same time I dont think these would rice it out too much.

Eldorado 04-15-2006 10:37 AM

depends on the colour i think...
I personally wouldn't use it.. but i dont think it looks like ass either.

Got a picture of the car?

Previos owner of my got a strip of gray, and cut it out to fit, not the best job ever, but so long as yo aren't too close, it looks nice. (Lots of things like that on the car..., such as the hand painted "MOMO" on the horn button, I removed that one though. :))

I don't have a pic of the actual car here with me - it's just your average Guards red 944 lol

Tervuren 04-15-2006 11:28 AM

Guards red, probaby a little more iffy with gray stripes. What wheels does it have? What color is the 944 badge on the back?

roadierfl 04-15-2006 11:38 AM

They're black stripes....grey wouldn't work at all :(

I have the phonedials (which I hate) too

Tervuren 04-15-2006 12:08 PM

With phonedials, I'd leave it as it is. especialy if they are the polished. With black Cookie cutters, or black or black and polished fuchs, I'd go add it. Basicly, there needs to be a bassis for the black in order for it to look right. Gray would work with the wheels, but not the car's color. I'm thinknig if they made them in white, that would work with guards red, and the phonedials.

I don't think they will look 'rice', but to my eye they do look vintage- more 924 than 944...more 70's than 80's or later. When I see those early Porsche stripes I think of a 911R.

Phonedials are from a later period- it might be a weird mix to do phonedials with the older look stripes.

...but then again, I'm no fan of phone dials -especially on a 944. Black centered Fuchs just look SO right. IMO black Fuchs are THE signature wheels for the 944...and they look more 'bad boy' German as opposed to dials which look like 80's bling.

I always thought phone dials came across as a hand-me-down from the 928.

You have a good point with the vintage thing.....

I put them on my old yellow 914 and they looked great

I'm still undecided, I want to do it but I don't want to look like an ass lol

The question, is whether you mind people knowing its a Porsche or not. I had a guy next to me go "nice Ferrari, what kind is it?" Then he looked down, and saw PORSCHE written on the side. A lot of people just aren't familiar with the 944's shape, and without badges or decals, they won't know what it is.

roadierfl 04-15-2006 03:47 PM

LOL!!!

I have a story for you....

Gas station last summer....I was parked outside the convenience store after filling up....an older guy pulled up next to me, I'd say in his 50's, and got out of the car and looked at me

"What is that? Nice car"

I almost choked as I said "A 944" and his reply was to give me one of the blackest "If I could kill you by looking at you, you'd be dead" looks, and went into the store.

Gotta love 911 drivers, LOL - Yup, that's right, he was driving a '95 911 LOL

I think I remember seeing pictures of a yellow one on here (maybe the garage thread?) before. Maybe you could take a look at it and see what you think. Anybody remember that thread or know who's car it was?

Porsche-O-Phile 04-15-2006 08:50 PM

For track graphics, sure. For street car, probably a little too dated looking - unless you're into that kind of thing

Slam 04-15-2006 09:07 PM

A magnet for every idiot wearing his baseball cap backwards driving a Camaro. Unless you're planning to race stop lights, don't bother.

Of course, these are just my opinions...

The only car I've seen that looked good with those was a tan 944. The decals were in brown. Go figure...

CJFusco 04-17-2006 06:41 AM

"LOOK AT ME! I DRIVE A PORSCHE! SEE? IT EVEN SAYS SO ON EVERY INCH OF THE CAR!"

No stripe.

Brando 04-17-2006 10:03 AM

The decals on the sides look good... On some cars (early carerras, 914s, 924GTS, 968 Club Sport) But not on a 924 or 944... That's why they had the rear reflector/light :)

Besides, if they can't tell what it is by looking at the badge, why be a cop magnet?
