Question Is there a REAL Porsche shop manual on CD?

I have bought the ones on ebay that someone copied the pages and converted them to PDF. Im not to happy with that one, it seems there are some pages missing. Its better than nothing though. Is there such a thing as a REAL shop manual from Porsche? Im sure it would be alot better than the pdf version. If this exists, where can you get it? From Porsche? If it is on ebay how can you tell which one is the real Porsche manual?

Porsche has to sell us their shop manuals here in the US. Its the Freedom on Information act that gives us this right. I doubt, though, that they have taken the time to convert it to PDF or anything similar, because it has the ability to be leaked and thus distributed freely around the internet.

Just as a heads up, you bought an illegal copy of the manuals... if your the type of person to care about that, you might want to distance your self from those copies. Porsche is a bunch of tight wads, and thats why this topic is pretty much banned on pelican. It wouldnt be supprising to hear Porsche throw a fit and try to put blame on pelican for it and then there goes our beloved forums.

this guy dealt on ebay.. not pelican.. i think this site is safe

how does the freedom of information act apply to copyrighted information? It's a manual porsche wrote for porsche techs. they dont need to sell/disclose it to anyone - it's their information.

In American the freedom of information act states that if you are going to sell products in the US you MUST offer any and all information on that product, for example shop manuals. It is what they have to give up to sell here.

CD's didn't exist when the first 944's came out. Porsche might have produced some to coincide with the last of the late nineties models (I don't think they did) but if so I doubt they would have bothered to retrospectively put together manuals to inlcude pre 85/2 models.

I thought they might have put the manuals on CD just for their mechanics instead of having to goto paper copies. Im sure all the new cars manuals for Porsche are on CD's. I was just thinking that if they did make them for their mechanics why wouldnt they sell them and make money off of them.

ya but we are discussing it here, thus we are contributing to discussion of piracy ect ect... its not solid or concrete by any means, but if porsche wanted to be gay they could definantly try.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. In my best Seinfeld voice.

Uh, can you provide some reference to this in the FOIA?

It's always been my understanding that the FOIA only applies to government agencies, not to any private entitiy.

It's sounds to me like the urban legend that car manufacturers must stock parts for cars sold in this country for some period of time (that's certainly not true).
