Pre 85 944 owners i need your help - start up

My 83 944 won't start any more. It cranks but doesnt fire. When it worked it would make a three beep sound that would loop when the ignition was on. Now that it won't turn on, it won't make the sound anymore. I was wondering what your car does when the ignition is on. Also I am thinking it could be one of three things. Aftermarket alarm, dme, or the reference sensor. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

No beeps when I start mine, so I guess the beeping is something to do with the alarm.

Factory alarm doesn't go beep beep beep. You probably have an aftermarket alarm that's causing all of this grief. Your best bet is to remove it and try to return everything the installer did back to stock.

Three beeps, or five? Because I think five beeps is the universal "the battery is being drained so watch it!" sound. I got that when my alternator belt tension strut was busted and my battery wasn't recharging, whenever I'd try to turn on the lights, or radio, or anything. Then I'd stall...

So it could be a leach? I.e. alarm system, like they said above? =D

Its 3 different notes that are being looped all the time when the ignition is on (kinda like "bee boo bop bee boo bop"). I am getting a new alarm installed next week so hopefully that will fix it.

All the wires that would need to be used dissonected and connected are located around the fuse panel under the dash.. IF the alarm is at fault and that is the only issue this is what i would recomend to do.

IF you can see what brand alarm it is and buy the same brand as the problem is usually just the brain ( assuming its a name brand) and just pop in a new brain.

Or just start from scratch and get yourself an alarm with a lifetime warenty

DEI makes a great alarm a.k.a Python, Viper etc are the alarms they make. Back when circuit city was alive that's all i would recomend.. The audiovox was good too a.k.a Prestige alarms

Before you rip everything out, remove one wire at a time and try to start. Take pictures or write a diagram of where each wire went. I would also get a wiring diagram to help identify where the wires are going (to alarm) or should go (stock).

Haynes has a diagram for our cars in the back.

Maybe there are better diagrams around. Others smarter than me would know.
