CV joint boot is torn. What should I replace?

When I was changing my trans axle fluid I noticed one of my boots next to the transmission is torn. I haven't heard any noise from the CV joint so I think its OK and just needs to be lubed and a new boot installed. If I'm going to do that what all should I change while I'm in there for preventative maintenance.

Sell the car.

J/K. Yea, that should probably be fine for now, but who knows how much crud/dust/dirt/abrasive material has gotten caught in the grease and joint already. Try to wipe off as much of the old stuff as possible since it might be contaminated, then repack with fresh grease and install.

I'd probably pick up another CV in the "borrowed time" just to have in case it does decide to go down the road due to damage already done. . .

after you remove the old boot remove as much of the old grease as possible. re-grease and re-boot. CV's do fail, but they also give notice under most circumstances. If money is not an issue replace CV, or the whole shaft (both CV's)

You can pull the CV ....clean/inspect and repack....... replace the boot and you should be good to go.
