Springs and things
Can anyone tell me what springs and anti-roll bars are fitted to a 1988 (european) 924 S?
Also, any recommendations for what I should fit to it for 'fast road' use (for bumpy UK roads!!) As with everything else I can find information on the standard 924 and even the special editions, but not the S. Weird......

Better (and cheaper) to uprate the dampers first. Adjustable Koni yellows are a good start and then thicker anti roll bars, 944 Turbo or even M030 ones should fit.

Thanks Alex - that links really useful
![]() The dampers need changing anyway, so think I'm going to go for koni yellows - although I am slightly put off the thought of setting up adjustable dampers. Great if you have your own airfield, but a bit dodgy on the road!! The weird thing is that the M030 stiffens the front springs and sway bars and leaves the rear stock. This sounds like an attempt to reduce oversteer, but my [standard] car doesn't do so unless you deliberately provoke it - if anything it might want the rear stiffened up.

I did a very rough measurment of my anti roll bars and the front came out as around 23mm (have to double check as I didn't have a vernier and it was done from a tape measure around the circumference!) so looks like my car has the M030 option. I've got a vegue recollection of someone saying this came as standard on the last batch of 924S's. The question is - what else has it got? Going back to the koni's - are they calibrated to a certain scale? (i.e so many lb's per turn of the adjuster) I suppose that way you could set them to the stock figure before putting them on the car and then make fine adjustments after that.

21.5mm solid sway and 23.5 tubular is stock... not M030....If no rear sway then you have stock non M030 suspension. Also it will have Koni Yellows already on it if M030.
Sway bar does not stiffen the springs only the side to side roll which gives the illusion it has stiff springs. All P car sway bars for the 944 models will fit. Koni's adjust for rebound only so will not make the suspension stiffer. Go w/951 sway bars at 25/6mm fr and look for a rear M030 sway(19mm) so it can be adjusted. All other sway bars do not adjust. Set the dampers according to feel.(seat of the pants). Dal

The added roll stiffness at the front will make the car understeer (or reduce oversteer) though whether it comes from springs or sway bars, so still don't quite understand why they put it on the M030. Yep, sorry meant Nm-1/s or whatever the damping units are! (as opposed to spring rate) So, 25mm 924 turbo AR bars and an adjustable M030 for the rear?
