This engine build is really starting to show some color. I am proud to announce that we have made more progress. Here are the picks from todays work, i really think it is looking nice.
ENJOY! I took a lot of pictures I am only posting a select few on pelican, please see my blog with all the pictures and descriptions/instructions on procedures. Nice very very nice. One question though; all the head and bottom end studs that I have installed, the manufacture has specified that the studs are NOT bottomed out in the hole. it looks like you are installing them tight against the bottom of the hole in the pics. I really think you should be absolutely certain this is a correct installation. Just tryin to help out, let me know what you find out please.
|
Thanks for the advice. We were only going off of the stud height from the deck (73mm). I will have to look into it in more depth.
|
Dave,
None of the studs actually bottomed out but were a little tight towards the bottom. We were using the 73mm figure the manufacturer provided. |
Sounds good. I saw the pic with the double nut and it raised a red flag. I cant wait for start up!

Holy smokes that looks terrific!Definitely enjoying watching this engine porn http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

THANKS GUYS! i am happy to see some excitement - CAUSE I AM MORE THAN READY FOR THE KEY TURN.... BOOM! hahahhaha..
This is month 5 of the rebuild - talk about slackers! I was watching trucks today and the dudes got a full header back 2.5 in mandrel bent exhaust system made for a chevy 350 (minus cat and muffler) for a total of $245!.... does anyone know of a person who can make one for my porsche for that cheap!! |
Wow, love the red powder coated parts cchyper. Wasn't your first choice Magenta? I can see the Powder Coating shop running out of such a high in demand color. Anytime the word "porsche" is mentioned, expect prices for exhaust to double. Now unless you tell them it's for a 2.5 liter Chevy.....perhaps the ol Citation II.

HAHAHAHHAHHAHA HAHAHAH AHA HAHHA.....
Bose You Are GOOD. DOUBLE so far .... i hear TRIPLE! |
When you get the motor all done are you going to put it in that citation. I used to have one with a 2.5l and it was fast and got me more a$$ than a toilet seat. Chicks dig citations, but so do wankers.

Nice engine!

Very Nice Love the powder coating, Stil looking for a electric oven cheap so i can try it myself. On the Intake manifold, Was that bead blasted because the inside looks CLEAN as do the flat surfaces.
I guess the shop Honed and re-etched the block correctly as you didnt post that they made a mistake there. Or did i miss something? |
I might be able to help out with your exhaust. PM sent
|
hyper, good to hear from you this morning. thanks for the call. let me know how things go with the oil cooler. stop by sometime and check out the shop

Are you using a 951 oil cooler housing to tap a remote cooler? I want to run a oil cooler but am not sure that the spacer under the filter is the way to go.
|
Yes, I am using the factory 951 oil cooler housing to eliminate that dangerous and rather ineffecient factory oil to water cooler. I went to a hydraulic fitting store today to get all the right fitting sizes (below). I will be using a after market $100-$130 10-12 row aluminum cooler w/ 10AN connectors (factory 951 is a $600 7 row) off of ebay or summit racing with stainless lines and adapter fittings (aluminium is not as ACCESSIBLE, cheap or strong). Each adapter is going to run about $20 plus $7 a ft for the stainless line. It is not necessary however to use the stainless line, for the pressure is not that great (but it looks cool and wont breakdown easy).

Is that a auto power bar? Cool stuff! Could you do me a big fav and post detail about swaping the 944 oil cooler for the 951 setup? I want to do the same deal, get better oil cooling and not have the oil heat load the liquid cooling. If its better to put it on your blog I check that often too.
