924S / 944 wheels - Same??
Kind of a question a little too late but are the wheels the same width on the 924s as a 88 944S?
I had my 225 Ra1's mounted up today on 924s wheels and was told they were a little wide for the rim. I was kind of surprised because I have 215's for the street and they look fine, The 225's do seem a "little" wide. |

someone will chime in on this, but I think you have either 6 and 7's or all 6's on the car. I really think it is 6 up front and 7 in the rear.

6 and 7 is the stock wheel for the 924S. Yes 225's will work. I have 7/8" 225's on 16" rims running RA's. I have gone as wide as 245 rear 225 front but the front may rub just a tad bit under hard cornering.

15x6 and 15x7's were not standard on the 924S, i am almost 100% sure they were an optional package. My '87 924S, with practically no options came with 15x6's all around. Stock tire size was 195/65/15. Talk about a skinny tire.
To tell you the truth, i still think that car with 65k miles on the stock suspension, mix matched tires front and no rear sway bar handled better than my '87 944 with Koni's, turbo sways...etc. The widest you really want to go on the 15x6's is a 205 width tire...anything more than that is pushing it. 15x7's i would stick on 225's. If you want to stick more rubber, find a set of 15x7 late offset (52.3) phone dials...they are easy to find and cheap!

They arent totally useless, would be great for winter tires where narrow is better

I have an 87 924S and it has 15 inch phone dialers with 215s all the way around. They might even be 225s. But I am positive they are not lower than 215s. Was this an option? I Think they might be slightly wider than some 924's I have seen before... but then again I'm sure they are wider than the old 2 litre 924's. I'm thinking they are the same as the early 944 n/a's tires.
Were the phone dialer's options on the 87-88 924S? Mine are fortunately in very good codition still .... |
