I need engine i.d. help,what size?

Hello gents, Haven't been around in a while, and while I was out ,I got to thinkin, What the heck size is my engine anyway?
My ride is a nice 1988 944 na, and from all of the literature I have read (probably 6-7 articles on 944 motor breakdown specs. by year)
I have read conflicting opinions, Some say all 944's , 1988 and newer had either the 2.7 or 3.0, some say only the 1988 model year, offered the 2.7 as an option, and finally , some say it could be 2.5,2.7,or 3.0!
Your guess is as good as mine as to what engine is in my car!
Any opinions as to how I can accurately and positively I.D. my motor?

Any help greatly appreciated,as i need to do some maintenance and need to purchase the correct parts.

Thanks, joe

944, 83 to 88, n/a and turbo, had a 2.5L engine.

1989 n/a had a 2.7L
1989 Turbo had a 2.5L

89 - 91 S2 had a 3.0L
