Angry Windshield "film" won't clean off. What works?

I was in a hurry and took my 968 in to have the microscratches buffed out...the detailer guy at the dealer went the extra mile (that I'd not asked him to) and rather than put canauba wax on like he said...put some sort of "plastic coating?" on the paint giving it a glossy look and FILLING up the scratches but not removing them.

UNFORTUNATELY, this stuff seeped down over my windshield in the rain and put a whitish film on the windscreen that I can't get off...and nothing seems to remove it...window cleaner, acetone, paint thinner, laquer thinner, paint remover, 0000 steel wool....I give up. I will take it back to dealer on Monday. I hope he has the magic bullet and I don't need a new windshield (and other glass!).

Does anyone know what he might have done...and what might take the film off my windshield? Short of replacing it?

Thanks,

Harvey

I've used this stuff to polish glass before, but never to remove anything, but I'm guessing it will work.

Probably any glass place will have a similar product, it's the cerium abrasive that does the work.

I'de take it to the dude that put the stuff on in the first place, After that doesent work you could allways use wheel cleaner. The real stuff you get in a gallon jug that you mix 50:1 at the Paint supply store ( automotive) great wheel anc glass cleaner. it's acid basicaly
:P

I took it to the guy who messed the windshield up...turns out that he used some water spot remover on it...and left it..and it etched the window glass. Tried more water spot remover, didn't work. Then used glass polish (pink stuff) and buffing wheel (don't overbuff and get too hot as it could break glass). After four tries, you can still see the streaks but it's much, much better. I'm going to buy some glass polish and finish it myself. I'm never going to a detail shop again. He came highly recommended but he was really not good.

I wouldn't settle for what you've settled for, that's for damn sure.

I"m with them. He would be putting a new windshield in for me or I would rent a bill board and tell every one what he did. Bad publicity works wonders. You pay them to do a good job, they accepted your money..they are liable.

I would have taken pictures of it at it's worst.. printed flyers.. and said they'd be distributed to the neighbourhood if my windshield wasn't replaced.

I took pictures, just in case, was prepared for battle..but the guy is so dumb he smells of it. I feel sorry for him. For him, his brain is a handicap...he'd probably get fired plus I dont' want anyone messing with my windshield..especially that group..even to put in a new one. I liked what the polish was doing. Impressive. However, it doesn't do anything for rock chip pits.

Last night I put on a heavy coat of REJEX in hopes of stabilizing the crap he put on the car, something called Polymeric Shield (STAY AWAY FROM IT...IT'S CRAP). I'm hoping that the REJEX makes it work better. Not sure what that crap is but windshield washer fluid makes it get sticky and it spots easily. But today, with REJEX on top, it looks like a million dollars. The crap stuff apparently fills swirls and microscratches (I had wanted them buffed out...but).

Worst case, I should be able to remove the crap stuff and start over. If I ever have anyone do a detail for me again...I'm going to camp out there and supervise what they're doing. They hate that but I really don't care.

I was, however, surprised by the glass polish stuff...but at least he knew to not buff so hard as to heat the glass and break it. I guess he's BTDT.

I'm getting too soft hearted I guess. I think an illegal would have done better. I still would babysit the work and I speak Spanish as a 2nd. Language.

Never a dull moment.

While I was there another guy brought in a 924 that looked like it had been used to ferry troops into Berlin during WWII..everything but bullet holes...peeling paint, cracked (bad) dash, torn seats, etc. and the detail guy said he was going to have to turn the job down because no amount of work he could do would help that particular car. I have to agree with him on that. Totally mistreated and unkept car. Shame.
