injectors/dme questions

After days and days of getting a solid idea for what to do with this car, I've decided to take the easy, most sane route, and continue on with freshening everything up. I've got a FULL tune up coming in now with a cold intake kit, magnecore wires, MSD sci / HVC coil, throttle response cam, motor mounts, soon have a ceramic header afterwards, etc. Next will be a full clutch kit (sachs), fidanza flywheel, schnell shifter, and got the hookup on an 86 951 transmission to throw in.

The plan is to get that out of the way and lighten everything up and get breathing good, then do a 75hp ZEX wet kit. Too much money and b.s. upon b.s. for any other power adder, and I've already got the f'in front seals/belts/rollers/water pump done. So, now my questions for which I couldn't dig up anything too specific:

1.) Is there anything else I need to swap the 951 trans in? Probably wouldn't hurt to do at least new axles?

2.) If I run a wilk's chip, will that be dangerous to run when spraying the n2o?

3.) Valvetrain... I've heard rumor of some pretty sick valvetrain upgrades for these cars. But wth can I find them?

4.) Fuel system... Do these cars use the standard bosch style injectors? Also, do they use a standard in-tank pump? Any idea about what size injectors I'll need?

Thanks! SmileWavy

1.) Gearing is much taller in the 951 so you're going to be slower Inless i guess you wet shot it alot to take advantage of those long gears.

3.) I think the best one for our cars is just to put in as trany with LSD

4.) The fuel pump is on the outside of the tank, It should be blue or green in clor and will be on the rear pasenger side On the right side of the gas tank.

Wouldn't worry about axels. Just check em, and repack the grease. They should be good for 100 extra HP. You probably don't need that Tranny either but if you get the LSD.. that's nice. With out boost it will feel a bit long geared. Should drop in fine if it's from a pre85.5 Tranny for Pre 85.5 car. Same for later. otherwise it has a completely different type mount that is not convertible with out custom mount fabrication. Ask me how I know. I think Shift rod should still be fine.

Talk to Wilk's. He roams these pages. But can't think of anything unique to a chip

3.) Valvetrain... I've heard rumor of some pretty sick valvetrain upgrades for these cars. But with can I find them?

You can get Titanium values and guides you are planning on running x100's HP NO2 boost but I wouldn't push a 20 year engine too hard if you don't fully re-build it up. Valves co$T$ I'd just make sure the Head is in good order and your head gasket in solid shape. If you're taking the head off, going with a multilayer metal gasket or copper might be worth the extra dollars. Lindsey has good stuff. Even Head swaps for about $500 http://www.lindseyracing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=LR&Category_Co de=944ENGINETRANS

4.) Fuel system... Do these cars use the standard Boshe style injectors? Also, do they use a standard in-tank pump? Any idea about what size injectors I'll need?

Don't think you would need bigger injectors since you're not going forced induction or changing the fuel pressure regulator. Replacing new or getting them professionally clean would be good idea. I like the Boshe fuel pump ~$190
Water Pump and Thermostat are good to replace while the Belts are off. When they fail this Engine goes bad quick.
Wouldn't expect much if any from a aftermarket header. Thoe a full exhaust will with high flow Cat will get ya maybe 15 HP, drop 75 lbs, and make some good sound.

Happy boosting.

Give up on most of what you are thinking about changing. Will not do anything to improve performance.

Chipping the DME is a good start. This will redistribute the available hp over the performance curve of the engine.

Don't need to change the intake (air filter) design. The stock is over designed. Just keep the filter changed.

Nothing to gain with the throttle cam. Sure looks cool with the hood open.

Stick with the stock wires. Third party sets seem to have lousy spark plug connectors that always come loose or off. You can make replacement wires and keep the connectors. Check out www.kingsborn.com.

Could get a cam. However the one in your car is about as far as you can go. If you accidently down shift and over rev the engine you can bend the valves.

Now engine mounts and suspension upgrades are really where the money should be put. Good tires too.

If you want hp then get a turbo. Still not a dragster. Think road racing.
