Hey same here - weather I can bring up my S, a 968, or maybe a streetbike... whichever I own next spring/summer we are definitely having a pelican BBQ...

shikzachaser 12-05-2006 06:34 PM

You guys need to actually give me a call. I have a great house for a party. Tom, you and Candace should drive the car up. We have 18 hotels that my wife or son manage and maybe (YA THINK0 we colud get you a rate. St Louis is a really cool town if you know the ropes, I sold a lot of the ropes. I found a low mileage Jag XKR coupe I just put a bid on today. I know it is probably sacreligious but what a bad a... car. 370 HP and typical jag lines. Gotta go, the wardon is calling.

Hey guys, if you're talking about a StL GTG....

I'm starting to SERIOUSLY think about running the StL Marathon on 4/15. As some of you might remember, I used to live in StL and my sister's niece lives there and she is runnig it as well. My only uncertainty is the fact that I'm getting over an injury (not running related but keeping me from running) and I have to make sure I can be trained up in time to do it right.

Eldorado 12-05-2006 07:26 PM

st. louis get together, hmm?

interesting... maybe a few ontario pelicans could convoy down, or the cheaper route maybe carpool (not in the 944 obviously :P)

Schumi 12-05-2006 09:48 PM

Edit: ahhh. running marathon. Yea, I would do that if I was in the shape I was a few years ago.. but not now... heh.

Also, we should get a date set. I can commute on weekends. I can leave Rolla on Fridays at around noon and switch cars at around 3 PM. So any time during a weekend this spring I could probably make it.

Razorback1980 12-05-2006 09:52 PM

I'll be there sometime next year for sure. I have been to St. Louis many times but I have only seen the drag strip and that's it! I lost a really close friend (Darrell Russell) there a few years back at that track. But it doesn't look like NHRA is coming to St Louis next year, so it doesn't really matter when it is to me as long as it fits into Candace's school. Kyle...start planning. It seems to make sense to do it while George is there although if we did that, Candace and I would have to fly in due to school schedules. Maybe I could drive up a little early in the car and Candace could fly up and fly back home. How does 4/14 look for you Kyle? George, no marathon for me. I have participated in the Boston Marathon for the past five years (sounds impressive doesn't it?)....but I only designed the computer hardware infrastructure and software to make it all happen...no running for this old guy. So, no trophy for me, but I do get an official Boston Marathon jacket from the Boston Athletic Association!

George, do you have an idea when you will know for sure?

Just thought of something though...with it being the Marathon weekend, will the hotels be booked? Steve, can you check that out for us?

Schumi 12-05-2006 10:36 PM

Well as long as you all have room for a young guy... :-)

Eldorado 12-05-2006 10:44 PM

steve, got a zip for me? interested to see drive times..

nevermind.. just went city to city.. wowza.. approx 15 hours.. not sure if i'd do that just for a weekend.. but who knows.. anything could happen between now and then..

4/14 may or may not be iffy. If I get into classes in Jan, that may be smack dab in the middle of my exam... i'll try to find out more.

shikzachaser 12-06-2006 03:18 AM

Zip is 63122 to where I live which is 15 minutes from downtown. Downtown is probably not the best place to stay anyway. It is not the safest place in the world. I'm sure we could get a group rate especially from my son. He has a nice smaller 100 room Holiday Inn that is in a really good location. I could set up a couple of "meetings". Check out the net for "BB's house of Blues" and also "The Broadway Oyster Bar". BB's was featured during the Ram's superbowl run year and is currently setting up a PBS permanant HD video booth to archive Blues music. The blues can be appropriate when dealing w/ these old cars. The Oyster Bar is a great place. Both are within a block of the ballyard. Also both are clients and we could get a rate for a group for sure. Jeannie and I will also be more than happy to host a BBQ at our place provided no one would be offended by a half barrel of Tommy Schafley's pale ale. It is definately a large step above our local macro-brew. Basic rules are: no peeing in the hot tub and that's pretty much it.

Kirkwood area, eh? I got my 2 year degree from Meramec before finishing my BS.

I'll know soon if I'll be able to make it. I was thinking about it this morning on my run. I'm starting from scratch and have to be careful with my injury. I'll know in a couple of weeks. The schedule will be tight to get the training in

As for being in shape... I was 260lbs the day I decided to run a marathon and 240lbs the day I finished my first one. My last one I was down to 189, but I've gain a few back since I've been injured.

shikzachaser 12-06-2006 03:38 AM

I just checked and the Cardinals are in town from the 13th-17th. It makes downtown a lot more happening when they are in town. I have a strong feeling I will get nowhere near my reserve on the car so I'll also more than likely have a 944. There is a great run here through the hills (at least what we call hills in Missouri) out to the Agusta area wineries. I'm serious about this. If anybody is interested keep everybody up to speed and I will do my best to help coordinate anything. Any locals out there, your help and input would also be greatly appreciated. I don't know how much help the local PCA would be as these are not "real Porsches", but I can check. They will probably tell us that if it can be worked into their schedule they might let us come and look at their cars.

Gearge:

Marathon / Smarathon come on up anyway.

shikzachaser 12-06-2006 03:49 AM

Is it Pelicanites, Pelicanians, OCD oninans, or what? If we could get 10-15 cars it would be a lot of fun. Just getting a picture with that many at an event could be pretty cool. I have a couple friends who are research Psychiatrists at Wash U. They may also be interested in just talking to us about "and how does this make you feel to work on these cars, do you think it has anything to do with you being beaten as a child and having to carry this anxiety into your adult life"?

Kyle:

Love to have you down. We better do it soon before W decides to build a fence up north to keep you shadey characters out.

The PCA here is mildly active... with it being where we are I don't think we have a lot of problems with being 'accepted' to hang out with them one weekend. I know that the Ozark region has everything from 356's to 928's. I have seen them take photos with them parked right next to each other, and as far as Porsches go you can't get any further apart than that...

Razorback1980 12-06-2006 07:12 AM

Sorry Schumi, I didn't mean to leave you out, I just assumed you would be be there since that's your area. Anybody else interested?

Schumi 12-06-2006 08:56 AM

Oh I didn't mean it that way...

We had a wine tasting last night and lets just say this morning was not fun to wake up to at 8AM.. We overcooked that bird a bit.

I got in the take out a loan and buy a 993 mood after seeing some really nice examples here on the FS forum for right around that 30K mark..

Eldorado 12-06-2006 11:15 AM

I'd love to be there! i just dont know if i'd have the few hundred bucks to spare to come down... greyhound is 150 one way.. a flight is 3-something.. that's not including accommodation..

I'm still a youngin', guys! just getting by while still paying student bills. lol

I'm gonna have to kick it around a bit..

shikzachaser 12-06-2006 01:13 PM

Kyle:

If it comes together and you can swing the air fare, you can camp out here. WTF, bring your girlfriend too. My wife is totally cool about this kind of thing. I just had a business contact that I talk to every day and have never met in person come down for the Blues Festival, it was a great time. I'm an old guy but I can still hang in there. My daughter is in the same situation as you w/ the student loans, they are a huge burden but eventually well worth it. I have a couple engineering students working for me and I try to pay them enough that they can actually live while in school. My accountant gives me grief all the time but I get some really loyal people to work for me that do a great job.

Steve

Eldorado 12-06-2006 01:31 PM

hey steve, that's one of the problems... my girlfriend and I got through college *without* student loans... we worked our way through and paid almost every penny out of our own pockets..

hence no savings. LOL

If I can swing it.. maybe pocket some christmas and birthday money away, and put some of my tax return towards it...

sadly, I dont get a lot of work in the winter time being an installation tech for Bell Canada.. not many new houses being built in the winter months.. so my paycheques are slim to nill.
my neighbour has offered me a chance to work at a Mr. Lube (similar to jiffy lube) to fill the paycheck gap though.. 10 bucks/hr.. not too shabby at all..
