I think Fiberwerks is coming out with a '24 front end.

shikzachaser 06-02-2006 03:31 AM

The friend of mine who painted the stuff owns a body shop here in St Louis and mixes the paint in-house. It looks dead on.

shikzachaser 06-02-2006 03:34 AM

If Karl does come out w/ a product for the 924 I'm sure it will be a good one. After the initial frustration with trial and error fitting and fabricating additional brackets I am really pleased with the result.

Steve

shikzachaser 06-03-2006 05:50 PM

I got it out today for the first serious road trip. I just gotta get that first little nick in the paint to get it over with. I put about 250 miles on it running up to one of my businesses in central Illinois. The car looks fantastic, definately a head turner. Now if I can just get the SC here I will be a happy guy. There is a large European car show in St Louis tomorrow. It was my original target date but w/o the completed motor I will just have to be a bystander.

Eldorado 06-04-2006 12:15 PM

any chance of lining up the exhaust with the cut out? or is it just a bad angle the pic is taken at?

also, up here in ontario, i think it's law to have a plate on the front of your car.. where would you mount it if that were the case?

shikzachaser 06-04-2006 12:28 PM

Plate is going in the mouth from behind. We gotta run them here also. It is a combination of angle and the bracket being off about 1/2" on the exhaust. It will be rectified.

Steve

Eldorado 06-04-2006 12:36 PM

so your plate is going behind the fiberwerks part then, showing through the mouth?
hmm.. be interested to see just what that looks like..

shikzachaser 06-04-2006 12:46 PM

Probably bad but it's gotta go somewhere and I'm not mounting it in front.

Steve

pdx944 06-04-2006 07:18 PM

I think putting the liscensce plate on the bumper would look fine. Besides woundnt putting it in the "mouth" produce a lot of drag?

shikzachaser 06-04-2006 07:30 PM

Probably will create some drag but I can't stand the idea of drilling holes in the bumper, plus I want something a little different.

The Chris 06-04-2006 08:32 PM

Car is looking great, can't wait for the SC'd pics.

Love the badge as well btw

pdx944 06-06-2006 03:04 PM

I love your front and back bumpers. Is the back one the standard fiberwerks or is that special one)something like EVO2). Also where did you order the supercharger?
Love what your doing to the the car btw

shikzachaser 06-06-2006 06:11 PM

The Fiberwerks products are actually the old style. They may even be discontinued. I really like the way they look. Karl runs a very good operation, I would definately buy from him again. If you do buy something take your time and get it to fit before you even think about painting. I will post the results of the supercharger after completion. It is as they say...a work in progress.

I just noticed you're in STL. I live south in St. Francois county, about 50mi out of downtown. I really like how your car has turned out, its what I want to do after my 924S. The 24S is a great runner with the 44 engine and all but it lacks in the looks department without the flared fenders......

cchyper 06-07-2006 11:25 AM

looks pretty good. nice work. I was worried that it wouldnt fit that great

shikzachaser 06-07-2006 08:17 PM

Thanks. It took a while. It really does fit close. It's not perfect but it looks good if you like this sort of thing. The only bad thing is this stuff (not only the Fiberwerks) is expensive and time consuming to attempt to do it right. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed and have had to read a bit then have help from people to at least get this far. It handles fantastic. The engine certainly sounds tight, doesn't leak anything, and is ready for the blower. I have been assured everything will be here within the next couple weeks. We have taken advice and gone to a stand alone system w/ 6PSI boost to be careful. I will be @ a dyno before the belt goes on. The lower end is new, we installed a 951 head gasket, new fuel pump, going w/ extra injectors, blah, blah, blah. All the electrics are working. The interior is done. Stereo is done, Windshield goes in next week. I'm sure I will reactivate the post this winter while I am replacing the transmission and clutch. Even w/ a realistic 175 RWHP and about the same Torque (should be achievable w/o blowing anything up) I would expect it to be a great car. I like it better than my 964 C4 Targa, a lot better. It's the only one like it in town.

Now I gotta find something else to buy and add to the herd. I'm seriously thinking about a mid-90;s M3 ragtop 5-speed. Those things can be made to be blinding fast.

We need to have an STL area P-car meet so ou can show this thing off to us... I'm rightdown from SoCo and eresener is in Caledonia with is about 45 minutes south of me.... I'd love to see your car in person. It'll probably just be another stick in me to pickup a project car...

shikzachaser 06-10-2006 05:18 PM

Make it a 924-944 meeting, especially if people don't get torched by peolple that think they should stay stock etc.. Nothing wrong with that, I'm just not into it. My wife and I will host it @ our house in Kirkwood or where we have lake property in Hillsboro. That could be a decent run. There is a country club w/ cheap decent food and a big lot.

PM me if you are interested.

Steve

Schumi 06-10-2006 05:55 PM

You have PM.

I forgot to put in it though- any good twisties out there? We could all roll thru town and out to some hills, do a little run, nothing extravagant, just doing what the cars were built for..

I have never rolled through a town or anything with a bunch of other P-cars.... that must be quite a sight.

shikzachaser 06-10-2006 06:26 PM

I used to run around with a bunch of guys w/ British bikes. I had a 71 Norton 750 Commando that was killer. The wardon put her foot down when we had kids and demands all toys have 4 wheels (except for the hovercraft she let me buy a while back). The cars would be a good time.

Steve

shikzachaser 06-18-2006 02:45 PM

I know I built this car for a reason

beautiful grandchild, steve.. cant say it enough :)

shikzachaser 06-18-2006 07:47 PM

Thanks a lot. She is definately the light in our life. Both our kids are in town for Father's day so it has been a good weekend. The baby is finally housebroken so she and I now do road trips. Today was get a new fish for her aquarium day, any excuse to run around in the 944. After that she tried tp use our pool slide in an unorthodox manner and we spent 2 hrs @ the ER getting her elbow snapped back into place. All is fine now. She is spending the night tonight so it looks like Barney on the Plasma instead of World Cup. Oh well:

ae1969 06-18-2006 08:00 PM

You know steve.

You should just run the car as is this year. Save the coin.

I would say for the amount of effort you have in that car. Its worth doing a nice upgrade.

S2 engine or a turbo swap or a custom turbo.......... etc..etc.

For the amount bolting on a supercharger will cost. You could have an S2 engine with LSD in that car. You have many options.

shikzachaser 06-18-2006 08:19 PM

I wish I was not half Irish and half German, my hard headedness and
temper would probably be a little more in line with reality. I know you are right, I just want to play out the SC venture with the vendor holding my money and at least see what happens. Also if I just drop it I will have spent an inordinate amount of time and money to no avail. I guess not totally as the car really does look and handle extremely well. I also have an essentially new 8 valve motor w/ some nice accessories. I have no idea what it would even be worth. What approximate percentage in increased performance would be realized with the S2? I'm not looking to set the world on fire, just a fairly decent increase to play with. I really hate the thought of square one again, at some point I have to stop the bleeding.

Steve

Schumi 06-18-2006 08:21 PM

ae1969 brings up a good point. You could wait a year and sell off the engine and swap in a turbo or a 3 litre. As far as expense goes it wouldn't be much more than what you are planning. Maybe a bit less if you can score an engine at a good price and do some of the work youself (I would guess you would need someone to do the actual physical swap but you could probably handle stuff like the wiring if you wanted to put the time in)

I was told by someone today about a 968 engine on ebay right now. I think he said the bid was at 1800$ or so.

5K on the SC or the same amount on a 3 litre engine? The results in performance would be similar.

Eldorado 06-18-2006 08:23 PM

i understand where steve is coming from though.
he's already bought and paid for one SC... it just hasn't been delivered yet..
I would wait out and see what happens, too...

shikzachaser 06-18-2006 08:30 PM

There's just something magical about that whine of a supercharger.

Steve

Schumi 06-19-2006 08:54 AM

After looking at your other thread and the pics of Mark's car with the supercharger and intercooler.....

I could see why you would want something like that. Totally unique ride. You'll know that there won't be any other red fiberwerks supercharged 944 of your year on the road besides yours.

And resale of such a custom car is not that bad. Sure, you might not make back all of your money in the long run, but such a beautiful car is worth quite a penny especially in a market of mal-nourished 944s.

Razorback1980 06-19-2006 09:39 AM

I agree with you Steve...I like Superchargers too. I think you are doing a hell of a job and I really enjoy reading about what all you are doing. Stay on track and keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.

shikzachaser 06-19-2006 03:04 PM

Trust me, this isn't about resale. We have already had it 22 years, what's another 20? I just want something different and cool, at least as I percieve it. Anybody w/ $20K can go out and buy a super clean 951. Not anybody with $20K can blow it on a $3500 car. Seriously, it is largely due to the personal work that I like the car so much.

Forgot about that... whats it like being original owner of a 944? You took european delivery correct? What was that like?

shikzachaser 06-19-2006 05:41 PM

It seemed like the only way to go. I had lived in Germany playing in a country western band and traveling all over. It was only a couple grand more than it would have been to take delivery @ the dealer and my wife had never been there. I think I was more excited about the 83 Audi Sport Quattro I bought new as far as cars. That was one bad piece of music. Even in 83 it was almost twice the price of the 944 and also twice as fast.

Steve

shikzachaser 06-19-2006 05:47 PM

Well extremely exciting news. I just got an email confirming the shipment of the first part of my SC system. The MAF tuner, software, MAF, and harness parts should be here Wednesday. Looks like everything may come together here in the next couple weeks. Pass the word boys and girls...warm up the dyno.

Steve

Eldorado 06-19-2006 05:59 PM

damn i wish i lived closer to you.. I"m sure i could learn tons..

anyway, told ya steve... dont lose faith.. i know it looked kinda bleak there for a while... but the porsche gods aren't that mean :P

shikzachaser 06-19-2006 06:06 PM

I actually know very little.I am trying to educate myself as I go. I think I paid less to attend college and get my engineering degree than what this is costing me. It has actually been a pretty rewarding expereience except for a few glitches. I just hope I don't wander off to start something else too soon. Mrs 944 has decided that we need to take a break.
