It's back on the ground

Well, I snuck back outside this evening. Mrs 944 decided to retire early so I GOT BUSY (She went to sleep, I got busy in the garage.
Looks like the lights should work out. I also like the fact that even w/ the car lowered 1" I still have plenty of front clearance for normal driving. I'm glad I did'nt install the lower lip. Now I just gotta wait for the new windshield, white gauges, and the blower.

I still have to figure out what type of grill I am going to use inside the mouth. I definately am not using the standard aluminum mesh. I may make a trip to a European salvage yard here in St Lous and find a retired donor to give me a grill I can cut to fit the opening. The black plastic cooling vents onn the rear lid of an older 911 may work.

You are definitely putting in the effort. Great work Steve. Send some more pictures when you put the grill in...can't wait to see it.

Sweet schik, very sweet! I'm fixin to do a major maint to mine, drop the motor, do rod bearings, baffles, clutch reseal ect. Now I want the Fiberworks pieces too. I like the one you got better than the new one. looks like you got some serious fatties on the back, 265's? Maby you can roll her out on a lawn or a lot and take a bunch of shots from lotsa angles. Do you know how much nose weight you ditched when you installed the glass? How much in back too?
Thanks
Dave

255X40X17 back 225X45X17 front. Lowered a bit, 951 sway bars, all new bushings, and new Koni yellows. It's like driving a go-kart. I probably ditched 150lbs total w/ the new brakes, bumpers, etc. After the supercharger is installed I should realize a dramatic power to weight gain.

Same as I am running w/ 8 in front n 9 in back. when the excess camber wears out the fronts i'll get a pair of 235's. this week I striped the paint off the lips and was thrilled to see a pristine machined finish! I ben so jealous of the early cars with the polished lip n the black centers I striped my lips expecting to have to polish from the ground up but nearly creamed my jeans when I scraped with a plastic putty knife n saw that rainbow reflection of a new machined wheel! A little simichrome n all is good! mask with blue tape then primed and shot the centers satin black. I like'em.

Well the color conversion kit arrived for the gauges. I was somewhat disapointed when I opened the package and all that was there was two pieces of white vinyl with the stuff printed on it. You have to cut them out with scissors and use a razor knife for the holes, really, really, cheezy. Unbelievable for $80. I should have done my homework. I stuck them in for now. I also got the white VDO oil pressure gauge from North Hollywood Speedometer and it's perfect. I am going to go ahead and bite the bullet to have them do the gauges properly. It really seems that a lot of people put a bullseye on you as soon as you mention Porsche and send out some BS products. GT Racing and Meister have turned me upside down now for around $650. Oh well, I should have done more research or posted requests for info on this forum. I wound up basicly giving away the GT headlight conversion ($25 including postage) to someone that wanted it. I felt like I was ripping them off for $25.

i want a ferret!!!

pokey 05-28-2006 11:52 AM

Those aren't ferrets. They are quadraped wheel cleaners. Note the extra soft bristles, so they won't scratch the finish. Where did you get them? I've been looking for a pair for years.

shikzachaser 05-28-2006 12:41 PM

These guys are awesome. "Quadraped wheel cleaners" ... classic! I have had a pair for over 20 years. Not these two. Unfortunately life span is around 8 years. The boy is "Kishka" (Yiddish for a fat little Sausage cause he looked like one when he was born) the girl is "Shikza" (Yiddish for a non-jewish female). I got these two from a private small breeder before they were weaned. I fed them w/ an eye dropper. I am mama to them. 95% of the ones you see come from Marshall in New York.

male and female? and no little ferrets running around? or did you fix 'em?

shikzachaser 05-28-2006 02:58 PM

They done lost all their goodies

Wife: Honey, why did you take your dashboard all apart?!?
Me: I had some burnt out bulbs that I needed to replace.

Well, it started out that way. But then I got the idea of putting the most important gauge directly in front of me - the tach/mpg meter. I gotta whole Jekyl and Hyde thing going on depending on which gauge I'm looking at. Hint: to relocate the speedo to the right side gauge hole, relocate the speedo cable to the right of the boxed frame that is just behind the center gauge hole. A little coaxing is required, but by all means not a PITA. For those of you wishing to retain said MPG meter fuction, you will need to extend the red and green wires (3 inches should do it) that connect the hall sensor pickup on the back of the speedo to the two pin socket on the back of the tach. I didn't think about rotating the tach with redline at twelve-o-clock though. Oh yeah, I also rotated the headlight switch 180deg while I was replacig that burnt out bulb because it..it..well it just made more sense that way IMO.

I like ferrets, I LOVE ferrets! Medium rare with a little BBQ sauce! Just kidding. My daughter has 2 fixed brothers and they are hilarious, delightful little critters.

shikzachaser 05-29-2006 10:58 AM

They make it kind of tough to get anything done in the garage. That is their primary residence. Their condo is in there where it's heated, air conditioned, and the smell stays out of the main house. I let them run around when I'm out there. My granddaughter loves them.

Well I got the oil cooler and related items back on this evening, filled it w/ oil and coolant, and fired it up. It runs perfectly. I made up an excuse to go to the store for trash bags and split for 45 minutes. Everything is just great. I have one dash light out, the new oil pressure gauge is reading off, and I still have no blower in sight. The car is still a blast. I probably won't post much more on this one at least until the SC issue is completed. I'll post a couple pics out of the garage. The Fiberwerks stuff looks killer.

I may have to start looking around for something else to play with. It's almost anti-climactic after something is done. Maybe an early 90's M3 5-speed I can make go fast.

Sorry, this one's already been around here 22 years. I really don't see it going anywhere soon.

schikzachaser-
where did you get the paint for your car? Did you order it online or did you get it through a body shop? I ask because I will be doing some bodywork on my 924S and it needs the front valence and mirrors painted plus touchups and I have no idea where to find paint.

Seeing those fiberwerks parts makes me wish I had a 944 instead of a 924 so could jsut get the FW front end and not have to fix my dented 924S front valence (part under the bumper)
Why o Why can't my car have flared fenders?!!!
